Problems with AMD dual graphics

Hello,
Have bought a new laptop with AMD Quad-Core A10-5745M and 8670m.
One problem I have is that I get better performance in games when I set the game to Power Saving in CCC than in High Performance ..
I have checked with MSI Afterburner. And with Power Saving the GPU clock stays at 300MHz, at High Performance it goes to 975Mhz. Nevertheless, it performs better in Power Saving ...
I've tried putting all settings in CCC and Windows Power setttings to use the most power (high performance).
Have also seen in MSI Afterburner that the 8670m card is listed as GPU 1-5 and the integrated GPU 6 When I look at the MSI Hardware Monitor during gaming GPU 1 stays at 0% GPU usage ...

And also no difference in games if I turn off dual graphics. It performs the same with just APU, as with APU + GPU...

*Have looked around for many hours searching the net and tried a lot, disabled ULPS, but nothing helps ...

Anyone have an idea?

 

Disable Dual Graphics, go to PowerPlay and set High Performance, make sure you connected the power supply, set High Performance in Switchable Graphics menu and you will get the best performance.

Dual Graphics with VLIW+GCN is completely messed up and AMD don't cares to fix that so just disable it.

So, what you are saying is that the 8670m wont be used at all?
hmm, think I will send this back then and go for a Nvidia solution. Do you know
if they have similar problems?

No your 8670M isn't useless. If you disable Dual Graphics and set High Performance in CCC, only the 8670M will render the picture, not the APU graphics

 

Thats the strange thing. I think the onboard APU is better than the GPU. It atleast has bigger memory bandwith.
I tried to disable dual graphics, and use High Performance, but the performance is still less than what I get using Power Saving for the game/benchmark...
So for me it seems like this combo isn't too good. Or there is something else wrong with my system.
But I tried it out of the box unmodified, updated to win 8.1 with official HP drivers, tried with 14.4 official and modded. And getting the same result every time..
Will send it back I think and invest a bit more money in a beefier system.

Something isnt right here, APU HD 8610G is not stronger than 8670m... You should feel the difference. What game/benchmarks did you tried?

 

I have tried Heaven Benchmark and Bioshock Infinite with the same result.
All working a bit better with "Switchable Graphics Application Settings" set to "Power saving"...

Also tried the Valley benchmark now, and the same thing there. With High Performance I get 18FPS, setting the app to Power Saving I get 20-21....

Can you provide the GPU-Z picture, both GPU.
It should showing something wrong.

 

Set ur application (game, program, etc) to High Performance via the Switchable Graphics menu, (example)



Put that 'power saving' to HIGH PERFORMANCE.

then normally your card will get used.

 

As I have stated before, I have tried that. I then get lower performance than Power Saving...

Maybe there's something wrong with your laptop out of the box.
On youtube a similar laptop slightly better specs was getting between 25-35 fps on bioshock infinite.
Most demanding games should get close to 30fps on 720p or 1366x768 settings.
But if you go for a gtx 760m it will blow this away maybe 4x faster or more, but also much more expensive.

 

Oh I thought you meant using only the windows and powerplay option of setting to maximize, but yeah uhmm..

What driver are you using currently?

 

The drivers I'm using now is Modded Catalyst 14.4 WHQL (switchable graphics fix) .
Have also tried unmodded and the latest from HP site.
I haven't tried these yet:
AMD Catalyst 14.4(14.200.0.0) Mobility SG. modded Driver (Enduro/PowerXpress Fix)
so I will try these now and see how it goes.

Well, I'm getting 30 FPS in Bioshock at low settings, and that video is medium. So something seems wrong...

So I think there must be something wrong with this machine...

 

You don't have to use switchable graphics fix drivers, you have a Trinity/Richland machine. Use these:

Also, have a Notebook from HP with the same APU+GPU, better works with "Power saving" option
