During this year's GDC, Crytek announced that CRYENGINE will support Mantle and Yerli claimed that with Mantle developers using CRYENGINE will be able to achieve CG quality graphics: ... Crytek's Cevat Yerli On Mantle&RT Graphics
Its real good that AMD have made there own API and of course adoption from Crytek is a winner. We all get fed up with bloatware and whilst AMD may not be able to make a decent CPU making there own API has kicked M$ into touch with the new DX12 so at least that's good.
Well, considering that 'CG' stands for 'Computer Graphics', i think we've been there for a while now.
Mantle is about: from very end of video. That's new. I knew that Mantle uses DirectX shaders (and DirectX 12 shaders once DirectX 12 comes out), but the cross platform shared optimisations is a new thing.
Dont hold your breath... Only thing Mantle does is a performance boost of about one graphics card generation. There is no magic or other technological advancements involved. Just some amount of extra performance, which is barely double digits in graphics-heavy cases. However, it does give more room for AI and other stuff for CPU which is great.
Depends on the pc spec entirely. On my rig, mantle is magic. The performance boost is incredible. We're talking about 50% if not more in bf4.
Mantle is still in development as well, so there should be further improvements later. These benefits will show in later games, but some of the improvements will probably help existing Mantle games through driver changes.
I till dont think that any CGI of the last 10 years looks all that great, all the cgi in the cinemas still looks meh with either too much fluidity or not enough. Im still waiting for FFX - 13 cutscene graphics for in-game. I think once we hit playable fps at raytracing ill pay more attention to Crytek, but as it is, the team behind Metro series did way more while deilvering more than just a tech demo. Crysis 1 is still the best.. IN MY Opinion opinion opinion opinion
