wow been waiting for this day so long now.. great news for everybody. i would love to see those guys who said it will be win 9 and new hardware only. so much you know about stuff
It really saddens me when Blizzard is mostly a PC company too and there game doesn't have the greatest performance.
Blizzard only cares about profits, and not the actual end-product. As long as the game works and can net them profits, their work is done. I found it a joke their "limited" Eyefinity support in WoW doesn't work at all in DX11 (can't see the resolution).
"Those guys" (thatguy91, Denial and myself, to name a few) said quite otherwise - that Direct3D 12 will be Windows 9 and Xbox One exclusive AND require existing feature level 11_x hardware on the PC, [post=4778110]that is at least GCN1.0/1.1 (Radeon HD 7000) and Fermi/Kepler Maxwell (GeForce 400)[/post]. The new driver model was hinted at [post=4786244]by AMD speaker at the GDC DX12 session[/post]. So much you can read about stuff...
I haven't been able to find any difference between DX12 and Mantle's execution models other than they name different parts differently in some cases. DX12 = Mantle. If anyone can find a functional difference between the two, I am all ears. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/directx/archive/2014/03/20/directx-12.aspx http://techreport.com/review/25683/delving-deeper-into-amd-mantle-api/2
As it's been mentioned before I think, Nvidia has worked with MS for years on DX12 behind the scenes. AMD's Mantle was released before any major information was known about how DX12 worked in similar ways, just better. So Mantle may be short lived, maybe not. Time will tell at this point. But as compatible as DX12 seems to be, Mantle will not hurt from it at all.
4 Years of talking and last few months of work can't be taken as "years". Re-read that nV blog article carefully again
This answer will coming out, when DirectX 12 is released to any devs without NDA. We can only guess, as there is no software with DX 12 on the Internet now.
Our work with Microsoft on DirectX 12 began more than four years ago with discussions about reducing resource overhead. For the past year, NVIDIA has been working closely with the DirectX team to deliver a working design and implementation of DX12 at GDC. Get a clue. They said BEGAN with talks, and have been working with them SINCE. Re-learn English carefully again. Stop trying to correct someone when it's not needed. You are the type that just tries to look good. Have nothing to say? Then don't. Refrain from it entirely.
Unless i'm reading this wrong, that would explain why Nvidia support goes back 4 years, while AMD only has support for cards released in the last 16 months. Was DX12 MS and Nvidia's response to Mantle, or was Mantle a response to AMD finding out about Nvidia working on DX12 with MS? I initially though the former, but now i'm thinking the latter makes more sense.
Don't think it's either. Microsoft said DX12 will work on all current DX11 cards, if AMD's 6xxx/5xxx cards don't have support it'll be because AMD only wants to support it on GCN.
Don't be alarmed, our CGN cards are all ready to receive Directx 12. Read till the end: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/microsoft-dx12-directx-12,26360.html
If it's a business decision by AMD to only support GCN onwards, then it's a weird one as ironically that is the reason so many criticise MS. Just seems strange that Mantle only supports GCN and now DX12 is the same.
