Star Citizen continues to break all records for crowdfunding, the upcoming space sim has not hit the $35 million mark. Interestingly, given that the game has around 330,000 backers, this means the act...

That trailer gives me goosebumps. It looks like AMD's Mantle will come in very handy displaying all that space combat goodness.

It looks really good. I did see a couple things which i thought were weird though. The "enemy" fighters had Ailerons. I guess maybe that's for planetary maneuvering, maybe you can fly to a planet and maybe land on one. But in space there's no need, no air.
Also the enemy fighters were aerodynamic, again, no air, not a problem.
Definitely curious to see where this game goes though.

They are adding tons of stuff, new ships, they offered several exclusive Sales... they are very good at marketing)

Also the site was not always user-friendly... which caused me to pledge once... then buy another ship)

I am not sure why - but I am also very thrilled with that game.

"and even talk of incorporating citizenship rules such as paying tax."

Really? Having no freedom in real life is not enough? Lets put a leash around their necks so that they feel right at home!

    Pathetic idea.

    Become Pirate, don't pay tax.

(A lot of this stuff seems to be being asked for by a sect of people I like to call a "Bunch of anal retentive ********")

LOL they are trying to replicate a universe where the "safe" territory is controlled by a thinly veiled dictatorship, outside of the "safe" space is a lawless outer frontier element.

Seeing as they are fleshing out the economy properly, tax is a part of the economy whichever way you look at it, so it's going to be there. Don't worry you won't need to go to a school of about economics before you can get ingame and enjoy getting shot by me.

Economics? How about replacing it with Ethics for once. Monkey see monkey do!

Well of course and it will be interesting to see the ratio between the two but only if the game has 0 preference/bias as to which side each player has to take at any point of time.

Still though, politics always find a way in into every crack of our society which is the point I was making.

Economics can be modelled ingame. The Ethics part is up to the players. Who by and large are a pretty good cross section of general society.

If the game didn't have politics or any normal rivalry/conflict it wouldn't be much fun. Too many carebears and anal retentives...

Oh and I'm yet to see much in the way of Ethics being put to good use IRL let alone in games ;)

Real life should have nothing to do with video games. Why the hell would I want to pay taxes in a video game?

Yes I've got my eye on this, I left Eve online after playing that for 18 months, got bored of it in the end but I may well return to the space mmo with this title.

Well, the ships must be flyable in atmospheric situations. You must be able to land on planet.

From what I've read, there wont be any planetary landings. It's all set in space.

    They do? I'm deaf.

Ok not really, but you can still hear the sounds of your own ship if it's a pressurized cockpit. Including if you get hit by enemy fire, it could cause vibrations or micro explosions that travel to the cockpit.
And for indirect explosions, though there's no shockwave, you can still be hit by high velocity micro debris, which would again, make sound in a cockpit on impact.
    Space combat isn't THAT silent.
