Not the first time something like this has happened.

Someone got fired and did this or probably an angry employe. Or as he told us the customer support sucks and did not inspect the returned box.

Not really Apple's fault but the blame is defiantly on WallMart. That is BS that they don't put returned products back on the shelf. That manager is probably in on the scam.

I read a news article a few weeks ago about a guy that had a similar issue. Not sure if it was Wallmart but it was a similar sort of store. He actually had the police called on him and was detained for trying to return an Apple product that had been stolen/replaced with junk by someone else. I've read of multiple other cases of similar happening.

If I was buying a product like that from a store (as in small, popular and expensive electronic devices) I'd open it at the counter infront of them before leaving, and quite happily explain why. For the couple of minutes it'd take I'd say it's worth it over the hassle of something like this cropping up, even if it's unlikely.

My local Target store puts items returned as defective back on store shelves.... I find it hard to believe this kind of thing really happens though. I'd like to see actual proof and not just a simple youtube video that could easily be nothing but lies.

Managed to find the article I mentioned. Here's a case of it happening in the UK for you: http://www.neowin.net/news/man-buys-ipad-finds-nothing-but-clay-in-box-gets-arrested-for-fraud

Luckily all modern Apple devices can easily be tracked.

This is so strange. Never heard of this kind of a bait and switch happening before. IF his case is genuine, I hope he gets his money back.

What does Apple have to do with this btw? Can't afford their stuff?
