Hi folks I got two sapphire 7990s and they run at 64%, individually too. My PSU is 1200W corsair gold, Win7x64 - same issue in linux. Ive tried disabling the ULPS - no avail. THe core just automatically downclocks itself to 500 mhz even tho the temps are below 90 or 80 or 70 doesnt matter. im using latest catalyst 13.11.beta9 drivers though same issue with older versions... how do you fix that? thanks alot
What games did you test? It's pretty normal behavior in some games, gpu is clocking down because it's not being utilized heavily. I remember my gtx 480 used to downclock in FIFA 12 until I used sine SSAA.
im afraid thats the case I just found out that this happens automatically when the core reaches 75C.. Is there a way to incresae this threshold a bit?
No matter what Celeron, this is the most ridiculous thing I've seen in ages. Imo your issue is due to an obscene bottleneck. Try with only one card as well
i got one core running at max, the other one now jumps from 64-100 every second... what could this bottleneck be? ...:bang: yasamoka, thats correct
You might still be bottlenecking. OpenCL still needs CPU processing power to feed the GPUs. What is your CPU usage at?
it usually peaks at 10-12% . Within 2-8%. the socket is 1155. Not 775. Its a dual core celeron @ 2,7 which I believe dont matter. THis bottleneck is really obscene
Is it actually still profitable on regular HW? As I saw profitability graphs for specially designed HW which is much faster on it and draws less power. Other thing is way you place workload. With what openCL tool, with what parameters? Because you may ask for too small amount of compute cores as you have 128 in total. Or are you addressing each GPU with different task separately?
Yes. I tried to run each gpu individually and found out that they start throttling not because of temp but core clocks... for example one gpu starts sthrottling at 880 mhz while the other gpu keeps running at 100% no matter the clocks. Also one 7990 hangs when both gpu are employed. I bought this cards for mining. I was absolutely terrified to know that mining was done solely with amd gpus. THats ws the only reason I would buy the products. THe things, both gpus and drivers, work at random occasions, there is absolutely no reliability . AMD - put your luck to the test. That should be their slogan.
If that is so, then test Luxmark and how each GPU behaves. Run test only on GPUs, as in scenario when you include CPU, your cards will not be utilized.
Known Issue See the 7990 Bios thread on overclockers dot co dot uk The cards will throttle at certain temps/power draw
