Hi Guys, i was wondering if any of you did any testing with Hyper Threading and Battlefield 4.

My PC specs are in my signature and i did some testing, overall when i disable HT i get 90% CPU Usage and 95% GPU usage. If i enable HT i get 60% CPU usage and about 90-95% GPU usage, but in terms of FPS i don't see much difference.

I'd like to know your opinions/tests on this subject so we can compare.

    Thanks!

    Edit : i am running windows 8.1

    Edit 2 :

Ok so here's my conclusion after a bit of testing :

HT OFF : Max FPS: higher than HT ON, Lowest FPS : Lower than HT ON, AVG : Equal or a little bit more than with HT ON.

HT ON : Max FPS : A little bit lower than HT OFF, Lowest FPS : Higher than HT OFF, AVG : A little bit less than HT OFF

This is with a 6 core CPU and 12 threads with HT ON.

These results don't mean much since we don't have any official benchmark for BF4 MP.

HT creates horrible microstutter for me... but it doesn't matter, I can OC higher with lower temps if I disable it, and games will run marginally better.

Also, if I run the game without vsync or capping FPS, I get microstutter. Using vsync fixes it, but creates a slight input lag. Capping FPS to 60 with BF4 Settings Editor also makes it run smooth, but causes tearing. Capping it at 70 FPS (my screen is 60hz) removes the tearing and microstutter, so I'd recommend you try that.

    Cheers,
    Zareph / Peezee

    ht is amazing for me,
as op has same cpu i would recommend keeping ht on for all games
    4930k plays smooth with it

I think that if you are not CPU bound, then it will not affecting much.(but remember to disable core-parking)
If you are CPU bound, and you don't disable core-parking, then it will be very bad, and affecting your lowest FPS.

Games are def not playable with ht enabled and unplayable with it disabled. I never really noticed a difference tbh

What you described with the cpu usage is expected when u enable HT

There's not much difference, but if you're not having any issues I'd recommend to leave it on.
Especially for SLI/CFX setups, they are quite demanding.

HT is amazing for BF games in multiplayer. 64 player matches can either be a chugfest at times with it off or virtually 100% smooth sailing on max settings.

He has the RIVE. It overclocks better than all other Asus x79 boards. That board probably contributes to the higher overclock. IMO.

With HT off, Windows sees 4 cores. With it on, Windows sees 8.

If you see above 50% with HT on, it means the 4 physical cores are pretty much maxed out, same as what you're seeing with HT off.

Your results are exactly as you would expect and can't be used to make any conclusions about game performance.

I dont think it really matters in games, i have not seen anything different.
I just leave it on because i use it for encoding and i like to be stable with it turned on as stability with it off is kinda cheating, hence massively reduced heat.

    HT off 24/7.

With my RIG its sucks to have HT. Stutter fest in every game.
Its OC'd at 4.4Ghz so it enough :)

Nope, Windows NT aware of HT, they will know it is a fake-core.

So after Windows Vista, they see it as Processor with HT, or without HT.

But yup, it is true for the CPU usage, normally HT only affecting game that lock their Main thread to Core 0, which is a busy Core.
