Just want to double check before I make the trip to the comp shop tomorrow that software can not be the cause of one of the fans not spinning on my 7870 unless I put fan power up to 100% manual ? The back fan spins all the time, idle > load, but the front fan only spins up when I crank the power up to 100% on manual in CCC I've messed about with a few different tweaking programs lately that make reg changes, stupid I know but I was bored, I do know better really I don't have MSIAB installed any more, I do have Sapphire TRIXX installed but same is true with it disabled The fans are not independent of each other right? And software could not tell one of them to spin down and the other to keep spinning ?
both fans are being connected from the same 3 pin (iirc) connector on the pcb, you'll notice the one that works is on the main cable, the front one not spinning is connected onto that. I am thinking a normal fan problem, maybe it just died. How long have you had the card? RMA if you can, if not, get a replacement fan for the card.
I've had it since 10th November 2012 would you believe, 2 weeks over the 1 year warranty at the shop, but I already have RMA sorted, I've contacted the shop and they say I have an extended warranty with Sapphire for 2 years, so they will RMA it for me and loan me a card to use while it's getting repaired / replaced, which was good of them It's weird because it spins fine at full power, just not on idle, maybe the extra juice bridges whatever has worn out So just to double check, software can not be the cause right ? Same would happen on a fresh windows install ? Just don't want to send it off for Sapphire to say it's working fine, and my HDD is too fragmented to partition atm to test a fresh install Busy defragging now
Nice one, cheers Maybe I`ll get lucky and they'll replace it with a Tahiti model, they're supposed to be better than the Pitcairns so I've read
Yea that would be pretty sick Knowing my luck they'll just replace the fan and send it back or I`ll get a crappy overclocker as my replacement like I did with my 6850 1MHz over stock and BSOD, worked 100% on stock Taking photos and serial numbers before sending it off though so they can't screw me over
Reminds me of my old AthlonXP 2200+ (Thoroughbred), could go from 1800MHz to 1823MHz only. Other than that it is still working.
UPDATE: Took my 7870 to the shop and got the loan card they're lending me.... I am now the proud owner of a GTS450 for up to 28 days....
lol yea, my thoughts too But at least I don't have to wire my laptop up to my LCD and Keyboard / Mouse / Speakers etc like I did when I lost my last GPU
UPDATE: Sapphire refunded the shop full original price amazingly even though the card was over a year old Got myself a GTX 760 DirectCU II OC A quick read up shows about 18% performance boost over the 7870 Happy days, new GPU with new warranty for free
Yeah, that's not bad. 760 slightly above the 7870. They're not the best overclocked though. Still, nice. Enjoy your new card man
