I mean it in an entirely humoristic way and with good intentions but.... LOOOOL!!!! Especially 3 and 4..

On a serious note... Its been reported already elsewhere that the AC Xtreme III is indeed missing a few heatsinks and imho I believe you should give it another try. And this time lets hope all goes well.

    Hi all,

I recently got given 2 x 290's instead of the 290x model (PC Shop's error) and will be swapping them for the 290x next week. Re the 290x and Arctic Accelero Hybrid- i currently have 4 of these setup with quad sli 680's. The trick is not to use the included Arctic heatsinks for RAM as they are relative weaksauce. I used these: Alphacool GPU Heatsinks 15x15mm. They come in 10 packs, i grabbed quite a lot :) I also put some fans (4 in the case of quad sli) blowing down onto these heatsinks. With this setup I can run the ram on the GPU's (4gb so less OC ability) happily at the 770 standard of 7ghz without a problem. When i get the REAL 290x's I'll be taking putting 2 Acceleros and the large heatsinks on the 2 x GPU's and i'm sure the VRAM will overclock very nicely and the core as well, i'll probably run the ram at around 5.5 or maybe 6.0 and the core at 1200 or so. Currently with this cooling setup i run all 4 680's at 1240ish on core and ram 7000 and i see max temps of 50 degrees celcius :) Will post up when i have the 290x's and the temps but i expect similar.

I would give it another whirl, but there would still be the issue of size in my crossfire setup - it's ever so slightly too big to not foul on the 2nd card (especially when the backplate is on, as that sticks out more than the stock).

So with that considered, and not wanting to break it...I'll probably stick with the stock for a good while. I can handle the noise (not that its that bad unless I was to overclock)

Yeah you are right. I got carried away by the humor and although I read it, I didn't pay attention to your 1st remark.

Tight fit and especially the squeezing in type are not advised usually. ;)

Hehe the humor was intended :p - amongst friends I'm very much known for things going horribly wrong!

I found out yesterday that the Geild icy cooler is now said to fit. It's only .2mm less in height however. I won't be trying it for now but could be useful to know in the future.

As I had none spare, I'm going to replace the thermal pads on the stock tomorrow - as since putting it all back together the temps have risen significantly (yes, I used some "new" thermal paste, I say "new" as it's probably been in the cupboard for 5+ years) - so I'll be replacing that too :p

Alpenfohn VRAM and VRM heatsinks are a good idea as well over the Arctic heatsinks.

I will likely try the icy vision rev 2 at some point, but I will need to measure to make sure. The IV rev 2 is 52mm H as opposed to Arctic's 54mm H - so it may fit. However, I need to shift these Xtreme's before anything else :p

If MSI does a 290x Lightning, I'm pretty sure temps will almost be cut in half.

THG's 290 with an Arctic Accelero...

The results are different -lower- from the earlier reference review result so hopefully everything will be back to normal in the how-to guide they're publishing soon. The bottom two are the 7% stock fan RPM difference through drivers alone.

Gona hold off on one of these for now, seems they've got a black screen problem.
