Already felt the bite almost a month ago when I had to replace a 4GB stick on my laptop.

Which makes me think the fire was not an accident. Let's see what's next maybe a flood in TSMC so nvidia can sell titan for 2500$, and people will buy it anyway.

My thoughts are usually prices go up based on supply and demand. Ok, there was a fire which will hike up prices. But these days, even once supply is back on track. You rarely see these prices drop/stabalise.

Well, with all the sales the console are doing, Gddr 5 should be cheap as... chips soon.

I hope this will kill most of their sales of DDR 3 mem.

Reminds me of the early days of DDR3 where I paid $115 for 4GB of 1600. Now it's about to come full circle. Thankfully I don't need more than 8GB. I'm the type of guy who runs one thing at a time and maybe has two tabs open in a web browser. Old habits I suppose.

I find it funny that the plant fire is affecting companies that don't even use Hynix IC's.

I thought that fire didn't do any damage?

This is not normal anymore. I'm glad I got my amount of memory (4x8GB) for a mere €120 last year. I don't want to know its current pricing. I just checked anyway, same set costs €260 now. :puke2:
The fire didn't affect production (was extinguished in a very short time), but it is still used as an excuse to hike up prices. We saw the same crap with HDD's.

Next: Mice ate all the donuts in the canteen @ Intel, CPU prices doubled! :3eyes:

its like gasoline they get a small leak or storm and they hike the prices up without ever coming down fully

It didn't damage any of the fabrication equipment, but the air circulation and treatment facility. Without that, the clean rooms won't stay clean for long and yield would plummet to zero.

How's that gonna help ram prices? That's graphics card memory.
