That was a complaint about devs using brute force instead of optimising games, something that still happens.

Lying about requirements is stating the game can run ok on recommended hardware so they sell more copies.

This is beyond honest so people don't waste their money on something they cannot max at at high/res framerate.

I'm not saying that the game was fully intended to be a glorified tech demo. I was actually one of the few that loved the game and the franchise as a whole. I didn't sit back and cry that Crysis 2 graphics sucked. I enjoyed the game.

That said, it would be foolish to think that Crysis was made with the sole intention of being a game. It was a kill two birds with one stone type of deal for Crytek. Crysis and by extension Cry engine was meant as a feature showcase and benchmark for the future of gaming. Crytek obviously had licensing middle ware in mind, and was targeting being a main competitor against Unreal Engine 3 for this generation of games. They missed the mark though with some heavy hardware requirements. 10 year console cycles don't help this.

Doesn't change the fact that they have set some bars for image quality moving forward.

...dont say bad things about gtx8800! I have couple of 8800 Ultra's on my second pc over a 6 years now - they great and amazing! :D I can run Crysis2/3 on them very smoothly at 1080p and High settings with one exception, for smooth FPS transition - SSAO, GI = off in C3 - 40-60fps! If only they can handle dx11...

This is exactly how it was . I remember .

But the game looked incredible first sight on my 8800GTS, couldnt max it.
Many games that are today 2013... don't look better than Crysis maxed.

Hitman: Codename 47 had cloth and foliage physics in back in 2000.

Meh, most games have better interiors than Crysis.

True, most of the good looks in the original Crysis game are down to easy to make good looking location.

No, high-end videocards are GTX 770, 780 and Titan only.

NOOooo! :( ...but wait, 760 performs better than 660-ti (in marketing way by NVIDIA, 660-ti = 760), closer to 670 and u put 260/460 on high-end sector - even for the logic rule, same goes for 760 ;) ...and as for Titan - this is a boutique card...it's stays apart from 700 series :D

PS. NVIDIA GTX Titan - JAYZ RAGE

PPS. But personally, I think the "high-end" term only applies to top model (GX690, 8800Ultra, etc.) of any product - the rest, it's just for the consumer peace of mind and self-esteem...made by corps for only to a bs a consumer ;)

Far Cry 2 has very good foliage. You can almost feel the leaves and grass as you crawl through the brush to recon an area and plan your assault. Sometimes a leaf would get in the way of the sniper scope forcing you to shift slightly.

In Far Cry 3 the foliage seems to be laid out on the ground in long rectangular sections that don't always fit the terrain properly and sometimes looking like a mattress made of grass rocking back and forth when disturbed.

Yes I agree, that's something I noticed when I installed it a while back but didn't consciously note it was the bad weapon textures, just thought the game looked kinda old but yeah, it was mostly the weapons.
Crysis 3 on the other hand ..
