Me neither, I know I'm largely ignorant of things over there but I heard yesterday the average trip to A&E in the US will cost $1200??? We go to A&E here for fun basically and the thought of getting your wallet out for it seems ridiculous, nobody would ever get anything treated lol. I have ignored prescriptions due to having to pay £7.50 for it before lol. I just got 3 lots of prescriptions this week and didn't have to pay anything, if I had to pay I would simply be suffering now without them

My opinion is that we are conditioned at an early age that these things are unAmerican. We are better dead than red, Communism and Socialism are evil, McCarthy Witch Hunt etc. Conditioned by what we heard/read from the media. We did not have easy access to outlets to see how other government managed healthcare. I do not reject universal healthcare, the for profit healthcare companies reject it for me.

While I agree with you on the war front as it a waste of capital THAT WE DON'T HAVE.

Your idea of how and for what the US government was establish for and to what extent is very sewed. The old saying that politics is a circle is a wives tale its a strait line. Go far enough right you end up with anarchy far enough left and you get something that resembles George Orwell's 1984. The US government was founded to be very close to the anarchy side of the scale with the government only being there to enforce common sense laws then the ass hats that originally didn't want to separate from the tit of England's monarch started to insert their will into the politics of this country to the point is now sits at today a crappy Chinese knock-off of the UK.

Well... "Representative democracy" and "Republic" aren't just words.

Anarchy only by today's standards. Simply because we've accumulated tens of thousands of laws in the mean time.
Yay for law and order... and everyone is a criminal just from day to day activities.

Left and right are just two pieces of a quadrant.

    .................................Restricted..........................Liberalized..........(Economics/Trade)
    .............................---------------------------------------------------..
    ............Restricted...|...Communism/Fascism.............Right.......................
    ............Liberalized...|...Left..................................Libertarian................
    (Social/Civil Liberties)

[U.S.] Democrats/Republicans are at best a rough fit for Left/Right. Each has their list of exceptions.
Eg. Democrats may want civil liberties ... but not when it comes to guns.
Republicans may want free markets, but not when it means government tied-in companies going out of business.

    went to the healthcare.gov site.

but the damn site dont even work right.

and then I failed I.D verification because I couldnt remember an old phone number I had 7 years ago.

and then the site got busy and kicked me out.

and I now have to call to to verify my account.

and you guys know this has to be done every year? says on site you will have to reverify your coverage to see if your legible to receive the same health converge. so even if you got approve for 2014. you might not get approved in 2015

    and the fines....

are they trying to make people homeless.

some people dont have money until there tax returns. and now the goverment wants to take money from your tax return as a fine for now having health converge?

and what about people that dont get very much back on tax returns.

I get max of $900 on my return. I plan on using that to pay off bills. cant do that if the government is going take the money because I didn't have insurance. Then I will end up on the streets.

I cant afford anything over $100 in coverage.

You gotta love the show this administrations put on by trying to make the shutdown hurt for people by paying to rent barricades and paying government employees to close off Federal lands that are open areas.

Pretty shameful to use blocking vets from going to the memorial for political gain.

Forcing people out of their homes because it's on Federal land....really?

    http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/226557661.html?lc=Smart

Shutting down parts of the OCEAN....

Blocking access to a private business, because it's along Blue Ridge Parkway.

    http://www.theblaze.com/stories/201...-inn-parking-lot-from-guests-during-shutdown/

Sadly the majority of Americans are probably too stupid or uninformed to recognize this thug administration for what it is.

On another forum I regular some of its members are talking about getting letters from their insurance carriers over the last week or so. I've seen rates go from $400 month to over $1000 a month with higher deductibles for some members.

'if you like your current plan you can keep it' lol, Affordable Healthcare Act my ass.

I'll probably be getting my letter any day now and will have to drop my insurance. Times like this I just want to make a nice stiff drink, sit in my chair and watch the show as the country crumbles.

I dont know how they think people will be able to afford this.

this is going to make more people homeless because they could not afford there insurance and then got fined, in turn causing a chain of events. causing bankruptcy

The forgotten man story... i guess we are lucky since we get to witness forced social change in our society. (joking)

Yale University professor William Graham Sumner had a different meaning of the forgotten man. His algebraic definition of the forgotten man was "c", who is coerced into helping the man at the economic bottom "x", by "a" and "b" who demand charity for "x".[2]

As soon as A observes something which seems to him wrong, from which X is suffering, A talks it over with B, and A and B then propose to get a law passed to remedy the evil and help X. Their law always proposes to determine what C shall do for X, or, in better case, what A, B, and C shall do for X... What I want to do is to look up C. I want to show you what manner of man he is. I call him the Forgotten Man. perhaps the appellation is not strictly correct. he is the man who never is thought of.... I call him the forgotten man... He works, he votes, generally he prays—but he always pays..."

Reminds me of the "forgotten woman" when it comes to abortion.
No one else has to construct the kid, no one else has to birth it, no one else has to raise it, and no one else has to pay for it (and definitely no one wants her to ask the public for help paying for it), but everyone else has an opinion about how she should do it.

I guess I don't see the logic in there. Naturally it takes two to procreate and if you're suggesting that abortions as a solution for getting out of the consequences for irresponsible promiscuity is anything but disgusting is simply wrong.

Abortion has it's place for health reasons or in cases of rape, but outside of that. It's mostly immoral selfishness that destroys a life.

Way to stick your head in the sand and start arguing something that wasn't even part of the topic.

Two consenting parties (only one of which supplies the personal mineral resources used to construct a child).

    "Promiscuity" does not exist.
There is no requirement to be married, or to have less than X partners.
There is also no requirement to carry a child.

Uninvolved 3rd parties' personal conventions, customs, beliefs, etc, are not salient.
It's 'selfish' for these 3rd parties to trespass onto others using big government.

Closer to the topic of healthcare than a lot of this thread.

Well, just got my letter from my health insurance carrier, and my rate has almost doubled from $420 a month to $806 a month, so basically I will have to drop my insurance after the first of the year because I can't afford it...thanks Obama:bang:

Who is this Affordable Care Act supposed to be affordable for exactly? because it isn't me. I'm pissed right off.
