assassin's creed dev seems very impressed by mentioning that assassin's creed IV will have foliage physics, as if crysis didn't have this 6 years ago, lol at next gen!! if it is gonna be the same like this upcoming game.

sure...and I believe, the so called new "nextgen" games will be as same as Crysis was years back :D ...also, I believe the console devs just agreed on not to notice the existence of Crysis 1 at all...like they embarrassed by its existence...thats why they so excited about how theirs so called "nextgen" graphics look  ...or they living under rocks or something.

agreed, it's ridiculous to think that some feature apparently seen in much older games on the pc, and say look, we have foliage physics!!! wow yeah, well that's a breakthrough, come on!!!

I thought the engine used in Crysis games was reused in many other games since then?

Crysis 1 needs like a super texture & mesh overhaul mod.

The TODs and DOF ones are already good enough. With better textures and 4k....

I think this has been taken out of context.

The fact that ALL of the features the dev mentioned are coming together at once, in their large, open world is what makes it next gen.

I mean I agree that we've seen all these features before, but it's still a big upgrade for the game.

Exactly, so if a feature has been used before by another game/engine then people shouldn't mention it in their own game/engine?

Crysis was years ahead of it's time, and is still a bitch to get performing well as that was also very much a PR exercise to help sell new GPU's and OS's.

agree, but crysis was not optimized, we all know that, i remember 8800 gtx struggling back in 2007, by which was the recommended vga card need one hell of a tweaking to run better, if it was optimized like crysis 2(although not as big in terms of level size.) it would be big difference.

What games are there that looks as good as Crysis but runs notably better?

i'm not saying crysis can't run well, but it needs one hell of a tweaking as i said to the config files and lod tweaks to make it run better, crysis isn't optimized when you're in foliage.performance take a major hit even on 8800 gtx.
this is very important, dx10 is supposed to improve performance, in crysis it hinders it , from 15% to 30% of lost fps for NOTHING.
1-crysis 3 is not dx 10 but dx 11 and runs better has better weapon models, etc, weapon models in crysis look so dated.
    2-battlefield 3 using frostbite 2 runs better(better weapon models,rendering etc).

8800gtx cant run crysis 3 as dx11 is needed , and while it did run crysis 1 , the gpu is super weak when it comes to todays gpu's. low clock rate, low bandwidth, only 768mb memory. it was bottlenecking the game.
