By a European hacker group: "A fingerprint of the phone user, photographed from a glass surface, was enough to create a fake finger that could unlock an iPhone 5s secured with TouchID" as ... iPhone's fingerprint tech hacked. (already)
That's not really hacking though is it, no more than me saying give me your pin code or I'll kill you.
Yes and no... Yes and no... I think the point is that Apple said it is new technology that is more secure which was proven to be false argument. The scanner is just more sensitive than before so no new technology there. And it can be circumvented exactly the same way as before if you just make more precise fake.
you can also access someone's phone if you kidnap them and torture them until they give up their password and/or fingerprint.
Is everyone so stupid nowdays that they really believed this would be safe its a damn fingerprint scanner and those thing can be trciked with even a piece of paper and your fingerprint , only idiots would thuink there could be some big breaktrough and noone heard of it, if you still think fingerprint scanners are any good check out mythbusters on those things, only a fool would feel any safer thanks to fingerprint scanners
I think you are missing the point really and looking too deeply into it. Its not supposed to be all 'James Bond'. To me a finger print scanner is good because the common thief will have a harder time selling the phone on, so may be more reluctant to taking your phone over another. However the real use of it is to stop the wife checking your texts and emails, end of story.
No security measure is ever going to stop a determined hacker/cracker/criminal/government agency, etc. The iPhone scanner is there to deter the small time thief, a nosy friend, your significant other and to make iTunes purchases/Apple authentication easier. A gimmick - maybe, but not entirely useless.
I love how everyone hates on this because it's from Apple. People never complained about Google's face recognition unlock even though it's a pile of garbage because you don't have to use it. This is no different, except it's actually useful.
The Face recognition was pretty rubbish. It was easy to trick, only needed a photo, and that's if it even recognised your own face in bad light.
Of course if you phone is stolen it won't help a bit it will be in someone elses use in future for sure. No matter the security
