I assume, they mean GTX 660 because there isn't GT 660.
    And 3GB VRAM? HD7870 have only 1/2GB So I don't really think it's ocure

(I play on 1680x1050, BF3 Ultra and it takes 1200-1300MB of VRAM)
so there is + 700/800MB for BF4. So This is Good for me.

But how about 1920x1080 users how much of VRAM is used by BF3?

Recommended means you can play at decent settings with a decent fps.

Optimal settings is what they normally give you to play all maxed out. It was the same with bf3's recommended specs (which recommended a 1gb 560...and 4 gb of ram so quite a jump)

EDIT:Memorian beat me to the offical pic :)

think they meant performance equivalent to hd 7870. at 1080p bf3 uses almost 2gb vram, maxed. from what I've seen, bf4 will use around 2.3gb+ at 1080p maxed. That's going by the alpha charts I've seen around.

I'm using roughly 2GB or a little over on ultra in BF3 at any given time. Vram usage depends on the map.

Well faack. I just got another 670gtx to sli...2gb! this is bf3 all over again...where I got the 570gtx sli and it didnt have enough vram to run ultra smoothly. Memory leaks on big maps.

and cards Vram cap too I guess, cause I never see it go past 1600 usage on my setup on all maps, thats ULTRA / 1080p. Game utilizes what you have available it seems, but minimum for bf3 is sure 1.5, cause 1.28 on 570gtx's just wasnt enough.

The alpha had about 80% of the texture missing and the ones it had were low res/ place holders sp yeah I can see the final game using over 2GB if it's there for it to use.

I know mate, I'm guessing all maxed it'll easily use over 2.5gb vram. Anyway, here's the chart I was referring to for everyone to see.

Hopefully I'll be on a 4670k and a 780 not long after release, waiting to see what amd bring gpu wise (if anything)

So any chance HT is working properly this go around? I know with BF3, there were issues at launch with it enabled which ended up getting fixed.

Am I the only one here who thinks those recommended specs are a complete ****ing joke?

Because we all own six core CPU's and graphics cards with 3GB of vram right DICE? I'm almost put off buying BF4 now and sticking with BF3 for the forseeable future.

I'll see how the upcoming beta runs first I guess but my interest has definitely dropped off.

Again, this is from alpha and subject to change, but I don't see much improvement going from 2500k to 2600k here

My computer can't play BF3 on ultra very smooth... but it plays it very good when I use Medium and some high settings..

I hope it will play BF4......

Even I have issues on ultra. If a nade blows up in my face or any close proximity explosions for that matter, my fps will drop to the low 50's. But the majority of the time I sit between 75-60 fps depending on the map.

Sounds like it might be time to update that calculator of yours and stop whining.
Otherwise, the yearly CoD re-release with a 6 year old engine might be up your alley.

But on the other hand, the Phenom II X6 and FX 6100 have an advantage over their quad core brethren.Perhaps HT doesn't help much in this game.

I don't get why people seem to be so surprised by the recommended specs though. Many on this forum have complained about the current-gen consoles holding the PC back, now when next-gen is coming it's more worthwhile for studios to invest more in their tech
