Kind of afriad to use it just yet. Don't want it to destabilize my OC lol

 

Well i started pushing to 4.4ghz last night on 1.4vcore and running 27.9 two threads error out when starting going to make sure LLC is enabled and might bump up vcore some more. I did play BF3 for over an hour with no problem. Might need to try Crysis 3, see what happens.

 

Board came today, now all I'm waiting for is my psu to come back from RMA.

 

Damn afro you were able to hit 4.5 with only 1.36vcore on that 8350? Should've spent that extra 40$

 

Ya though that was with the M5A99FX PRO 2.0 and LLC set to Ultra High, though i diddn't like the temps I was getting on the VRM's. Hopefully this sabertooth can do better and I also plan to mount a fan on the vrm heatsink.

 

Well i was running IBT standard at 1.39vcore on 4.2ghz and i was almost done and temps shot up and the computer shut off

Wont be doing that again. Think i might have damaged something?

 

Nah it shuts off to protect the vrm's from overheating, I believe it's a optional safety feature put in by mobo distributors. If you monitor your "socket temp", once it reaches 70 it will shut off or freeze up, at least mine does on this Asus and my other Asrock board.

 

With LLC set it shoots my 8320 temps way up. Do they just produce that much heat? I've never seen a CPU keep scaling like that. It wouldn't stop man, got up to 83C then off. I've OCed Deneb and Yorkfield with more volts and run IBT maximum for 15rds instead of 10rds and never broke 60C on either.

On the plus side Prime95 hovers around 61C which isn't near as bad.

 

I open P95 for 5 -10 minutes, if it passes that, I leave it for real world testing only

I don't care if it is not 24h P95 stable, what real world use would ever put that much stress on a CPU? Nothing really

P95 is a quick tool to get a rough idea of voltage needed to stabilize the chip, after that, play games, run benchmarks, convert video files, etc

 

HyperPi 1M. If it passes without error then I'm happy.

You'll know your CPU is unstable anyway when it crashes a game or app.

 

Was just running P95 and temperature kept rising past 65C thinking i might have a bad mount or spread of TIM. I just don't feel it should keep rising like that. Less i'm just not understanding that these things produce that much heat. This is at 71F ambient which is pretty cold for mid day.

 

Ouch i thought 70C was max for these and you want to keep them below 62C? Your at 4.6 on 1.35vcore? That's awesome.

 

Nah that's Athlon/Phenom chips. FX can handle up to 90c (not recommended). 1.35v is the VID, actual vcore is 1.42v.

 

I gotcha, what cooling are you using? I had mine shut off at 83C trying to complete IBT. I'm just going to have to bench and game to make sure this one is stable because any form of stress testing and it gets too hot for my taste.

 

I'm just using the stock AMD cooler. :nerd: lol nah j/k I have a 3yr old CM Hyper N620.

 

I read that they can handle 90c on the Die but only around 72-73c on the cores, not that they will immediately fry if you go over that, but that's when you start to decrease their life / cause physical damage

 

Tj (junction) is core temperature,Tcase is package temp (Tcase can be used to measure Tj). Tj max is the temperature at which thermal throttling kicks in to prevent damage.....

Edit: even though 90c is max I personally would not want my CPU anywhere near that temp. Anything over 70c would make me feel uncomfortable (but that's just me).

 

Ah ok thanks, yea I wouldn't like to see mine anywhere near 90c either but makes me more comfortable watching it reach the mid 60c's

 

So do my temps seem unnatural for an 8320 with 1.392vcore? Should i reseat?
