Server vulnerability 14 July 2013 - Database restored and passwords reset

Not that long since the nvidia forum was compromised. A connection perhaps.

 

I doubt that'd take you more than 5 minutes, and 16 bits password isn't exactly 'mega huge', unless what you really meant was 16 characters.

And why stop at 8 bits/characters?
The forum can take upwards to 20 characters and also accepts special and brackets, so the password can be set into something like this : ^}ej>,QKDUAe]{\o#se3.
That kind of password has around 120 bits strength.

 

It keeps logging me out .. it's annoying! :-/

 

This is something that originated for use on valuable accounts like banking/Steam and I just ended up using for everything. It's not like I'm that scared of someone hacking this.

I meant 16 characters, sorry. And that three minutes lost becomes 7, since I have my KeePass database backed up in three separate locations. Too much time, mang.

Why must people post how annoying this is.

It's far more annoying for Hilbert. For him it was/is a major problem. For us posters it's a minor inconvenience.

 

People need to let him know if something is not working properly. Like the fact that it keeps logging us out.

 

I'm sure Hilbert is either A. Hard at work fixing issues or B. Passed out from working too long fixing issues or C. Taking a beer and pizza break.

I like option C here and think I will do that. Clearly it is in the forums best interests if I take a beer and pizza break.

 

Can't tell you how long it took me to figure out I had to click on a confirmation email to get my access back to the pub and other stuff. Lol!

I bet anyone that's having issues needs to do that.

 

Better safe than sorry. That's easy for me to say as I'm an infrequent poster (understatement) but peace of mind is worth a lot.

Imagine how any of us, and especially the people running this site, would feel every time we had a random glitch while browsing.

 

So many cretins have been hacking servers lately, it totally sucks. These guys must have absolutely no lives.

And fyi, resetting a password is a hassle, especially if you have changed your password in the last month. I don't think i need to elaborate on why this is a hassle, but if you don't quite get it, il explain it in a pm to you.

I just hope the issues are resolved / fixed and perhaps backups are done more frequently?
