Adaptive v-sync alone can actually produce more input lag than triple buffered vsync with FPS cap. Why? Pre-rendering.

So above, you guys were saying that regular vsync doesn't give fps drops down to 30 or less from 60+. How is that? When did that change?

You need triple buffering for that. like d3doverrider can do.
Some games have it already enabled though

VSync + Triple Buffering + FPS cap at refresh rate. VSync removes tearing but if FPS dips below refresh rate, your FPS halves. Triple Buffering solves this issue and lets me enjoy FPS between 30 and 60FPS. However, VSync introduces input lag (along with TB I guess), so I cap FPS at the refresh rate and input lag is reduced immensely.

Adaptive VSync forces VSync on when FPS is above refresh rate (e.g. 60Hz), and GPU usage drops below 99% and the graphics card is no longer rendering more than 60FPS. As soon as FPS drops below 60FPS, in order to not get half your FPS (30), VSync is turned off and normal double buffering resumes. Your GPU usage maxes out @99% as the GPU is rendering all it can (there's no reason it shouldn't when FPS is below the refresh rate).

Only when you're hitting the CPU limit, things tend to get dirty it seems. GW2 is heavily stuttering without VSync below 60FPS. I guess there's something really wrong with the frametimes.

I use vsync all out, I've never tried adaptive but everything seems fine keeping enabled. Like other posters have said, I hate screen tearing.

VSync always on. I do like the best IQ I can get but not at the cost of smooth tear free performance... I'll reduce IQ settings till I can hit the solid 60.

    Time to upgrade soon...

Vsync on only and since my hardware is fast enough to handle 60fps in any game I play it means no screen tearing and I have never had any mouse lag in any game ever.

any one use the frame cap in msi-ab ?
-if so how does it compare with the 2 poll options ?
-used the in game frame cap in BL2 seemed to work well using 70fps.

-used the msi-ab fc for C3 seemed ok
-turned it off for TR for testing re game issues and fps were 60ish any ways.
    -haven't use v-sync in years.

    Third option - D3D Overrider.

Driver vsync have drops from 60 to 30 fps if fps less then 60 = not good.
Driver adaptive vsync have tearing if fps less then 60 = not good.
D3DOverrider vsync don`t have drops or tearing = best option.

PS. there is mouse lag when vsync on, so to avoid this i use MSI AB Limiter with 59 fps cap.

in game vsync generally has triple buffer if its not broken. and always cap fps at 60 refresh rate but not any lower value than the refreshe rate as it cause hitching !..

if in game vsync broken turn it off and use d3doverrider again with fps cap at refresh rate value, this will smooth out the lag that caused by vsync. ;)

or use adaptive vsync if you think its good.. but its not always good believe me ;) it depends on the game.

I use v-sync with triple buffering. In some cases I have to switch to adaptive v-sync or the smooth sli v-sync. However, D3DOverrider has not worked in W8 in my case which makes me very sad panda.

Try it in "win 7 compatibility mode", it works for me.

Set both "D3DOverrider.exe" and "D3DOverriderWrapper.exe" to always run as admin in their respective compatibility tabs. Works for me. :)
