Hi! First time to post here. I have come up with a gaming setup and I would like to get a comment about it. It is a cheap gaming setup that can play new games smoothly. MOBO: ASRock 970 Extreme 4 CPU: FX-6300 GPU: RADEON HD6870 PSU: Corsair VS650W
What are you planing to play and what is your target resolution? One other thing what is your target FPS the 6870 is a relativity weak GPU by today's standards.
For 1080 I would say bare minimum but that's assuming OP is using 1080 if 720 is the resolution 6870 will work great.o OP should invest in a good CPU cooler and overclock that cpu (though I would go with the 8320 over the 6300)
Im relatively new to this but for resolution 1920 x 1080(not really a target but would be border) and FPS 40 - 60ish.
What is your budget a 7870 may be a better buy for you. It likes DX11 more than the 6xxx series cards.http://anandtech.com/bench/Product/540?vs=548 plus they overclock to levels beyond the 580. Or one of the new 7790 may be a good choce too as its performance is on par with the 6970.
Unless it's used or have it on hand, the 6870's are going for about the same (or close) price as an HD 7850. I'd go with the 7850 if you can. Come to think of it getting a 600w power supply would let you buy the 7850 and still have some good head room. Over all it looks like a well balanced system, even without any changes. PS: I like my 6870, but faster is faster.
No it can't. E.g. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Catalyst_12.11_Performance/1.html Averages (fps): Alan Wake - 45 Arkham City - 49 BF3 - 31 BL2 - 62 Crysis - 31 Crysis 2 - 31 DIII - 85 Dragon Age II - 32 F1 2012 - 52 Max Payne 3 - 36 Metro 2033 - 18 Sleeping Dogs - 40 Sniper Elite V2 - 39 STALKER: Call of Pripyat - 50 SCII - 107 Shogun 2 - 28 Skyrim - 48 WOW Pandaria - 53 Playable framerates in a whopping three out of 15 games. To get playable framerates in most games, you'll need to use typically medium settings.
if you turn off barely visible eye candies (aka : ultra-settings), you can get 60+ fps in metro2033 with single 6870. If you want to see all eye candies, 680 sli might not be enough. I rate your rig A+. You will run all games fine on high settings.
Not so sure, I mean 30fps all the time would be fine for most people, but that is average, meaning that minimum fps will likely give easily noticable lag.
I normally consider 40fps average to be my cutoff if it goes lower than that you tend to get frequent dips into the low 20's.
Shogun 2 is a CPU hog as well. You would need an i5/i7 OC'd balls to the the wall and a least an HD 7870/GTX 660 to run it well. That doesn't mix well with the word budget. Code: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Catalyst_12.11_Performance/18.html
Eater go with a gtx 660ti or 670 preferably one that's at 1ghz then youll be near 680 speeds got my gtx 670 from galaxy off E bay for 350 (new) a still a bit pricy but well worth it in my opinion and stay away from amd if possible. Had a 6870 my self and had many issues in game let alone keeping 50 fps unless it was old no 60fps even in games like saints row 3 and dragon age 2 switched to a gtx 570 now a 670 and have never looked back better driver support and lots of extras to boot that you do not get with amd! Also if you can get the fx-8350 it will be future proof and its at 4 ghz so more than enough prossing power other wise the fx you picked will do fine! gl on what you decide.
