Very nice cars. I've always loved the Legacy estate - the hot ones must be about the best possible compromise of performance and practicality (apart from a Saab 900 T16S, obviously ;))

I've got a set of WS70's for winter, and with my FWD accord I could drive unaffected (normal pace without coming near breaking traction) in areas where 4wd pickups were having trouble going up the same mild incline (sliding back, 4-wheel spinning, etc).

They're not studded, but helluva difference from all-seasons.

Hm, I can't imagine how un-studded tires can perform on ice. Is it the tire's compound or?

Very soft compounds combined with lots and lots of siping in the thread.

You're never going to find mirror ice on a road. I've driven it on the lake and the studless works. Not great, but you can do a slalom on them if you're not a moron.

They're fun until the pistons and transmission fail. But that is what the aftermarket is for :).

That's neat, didn't know that. I know that in the snow there's no difference and that on normal pavement you're better with non-studded, but always assumed studded was better on ice. :)

    I wouldn't say useless.

Scored the same as Hakka 7 here in all the tests I read this year, and that's the way it's been the last few years. Don't think you can go wrong with either. Expensive stuff though... I drive with cheap ****ty Italian studded tyres myself, haha. :D

4 days time I collect one of these

Same colour, 2.0l TDI GT 170Bhp on a 60plate will get some actual pics up when I collect and can be bothered taking some.

You bought the wrong one ;)

Should be nice, but a diesel Scirocco doesn't seem quite right somehow.

My old beater. Old pic but not much has changed other than it being in black primer now. Mostly stock other than a welded diff and exhaust.

Got no problem with a diesel powered car been running around in one of these for the last 3 years

Would have gone for the latest version of that

Only issue is I've heard of too many problems with the 1.4TSI engine and I prefer the full manual and the new VRS only comes with a DSG gearbox, besides I like the any gear pull that the Diesel has, plus the fact that you can drive it like a loon and still get 50mpg.

Good studded tires are still better on ice, but the vast majority of winter driving is not on ice.
