I'm still wondering how much of difference there will be between mine GTX680 and reference GTX780, when it comes out.
Lol i thought the same, im expecting it to be at max %20 faster being the top, being realistic about 10-15% if that is then i see no reason to change my 680 but if it is as brutal as 50%...geez O.O
Yes min 50% faster for sure. And since when do we care so much about power, GF100 was a big flop but anything later is acceptable.. I dare to say it won't be more then 580GTX.
Whatever the difference is, it will reflect in the price and become irrelevant. Nvidia don't do bargains, they will charge for whatever performance it has, it will be relative. It will be the same old formula that has been making them allot of money for years to come, marketing gimmicks so as to remove the need to produce a SIGNIFICANT increase in speed/power/fps over the last generation.
I think ill just might changing my CPU then, and HDD to SSD... And I will skip the next gen GPU's and wait for 880's...
Why not AMD did it with the 6970 to 7970 in some areas they had a 90% performance increase (and yes I realize that was a new architecture). It could happen at least we can hope.
Sorry the quick math I did in my head was of a bit it's more like a 70% in games like metro2033 and crysis2 both were crippled on the old cayman GPU's as they could not handle heavy tessellation.
New GTX 780 will get normal performance at GPGPU (CUDA, OpenCL...) except GTX 670/680. GTX 680 is NOT high-end!!! But yes MID-END! Therefore, NVIDIA will drop much to US$250-300 for GTX 680 when GTX 780 will be released.
I don't see the point upgrading to an older card plus SLI problems and much more..for me GTX780 will be enough.
I don’t buy 50% either, seems to be all assumptions and wishful thinking, especially at the prices they are guessing. It makes no sense to bring out something that much quicker, especially if the AMD refresh is as underwhelming as that article also makes out. Why compete against yourself? When was the last time Nvidia released a card that was 50% quicker for the same money a year later??? The power consumption doesn’t make any sense either, for years Nvidia have been going on about efficiency, the only way I could see them going backwards on that point would be if AMD had something spectacular lined up. I am a pessimist though, so I hope I’m wrong.
