    Hi guies...

well ystrday i downloaded the Windows 8 SDK. .

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/hh852363.aspx

as because i heard that it contains 2 more direct x 11 extension files that's not included in windows 8 . . so i installed it..

I was exploring the installed folder where i found 2 files dxcpl.exe for 32 bit and 64 bit also.. i opened it and saw directx stuffs like Debug layer, Debug output layer and this and that.... but under the Direct Draw Tab there was an Option

    FORCED REFRESH RATE...

I changed the Default to the highest value of 90... for both the x86 and x64 exe file.

and woella .. all my games were running much smoothly...!!!

I dont know if this is linked with the Monitor's Refresh rate or not... But.. it did make some change... (because my laptop supports a max refresh rate of 60Hz)

can any one test this and tell if it does gives any change.....:)

The DirectX SDK does include a control panel for modifying variables. I only tested using retail and debug .dll's for DX9, and the changes are system-wide.

Although, I am a bit curious as to why adjusting a setting under DirectDraw would affect all 3D apps

Downloaded and installed with ALL optionals ticked. Checked Windows Kits directory and couldn't find it. Searched my whole entire drive with windows search and still can't find Dxcpl.exe, only in system32 and sysWOW64 but those 2 files don't have a direct draw tab.

Is the 90 FPS capping all 3D applications?

Dont know buddy ... i did not use any FPS Mon tool till now... i have to check...

but just as i changed it.. it gave me some smooth graphics in :

    MAX PAYNE 3,

    PROTOTYPE 2

    NFS SHIFT 2

    and SLEEPING DOGS

.. the games did run very smooth... but i did not check if the FPS is getting capped at 90 or not...have to test it..

why should something smoother if cap fps, by the way its not cap fps its hz.

I also believe this notebook even cant reach 60fps on Sleeping Dogs and Max Pane, so why it should me smoother if cap hz?

Technically speaking, if games have uncapped FPS, this tends to make the GPU do more work, and if the GPU is under such a load to reach high/dangerous temps, the GPU will downclock itself to reduce temps, and that downclock will cause stuttering and lower FPS. Once the GPU is in safe temps again, it will then clock itself higher again, and during that upclock, there may be stutter as well. And this process can repeat also making for a somewhat bad experience...

No idea if that's what was happening or not though.

It's the DirectX SDK; can get it from Microsoft, I think it's like 562MB or so
