It's only affecting clocks at 1000MHz and above. If you under, then you have nothing to worry about,

It would help to know what MHz your overclock is.
You might not have hit the limit.

ffs who is posting MASSIVE images, its a ballache to edit your post with that there!

I've already reported the post. Just waiting for a mod to resize it.

I don't think that's a limit, Unwinder (iirc) mentioned that nv had changed the manner in which the clocks are reported in newer drivers so what it is showing now is the actual clock and not what it should be, unlike before. I set mine at 815 but I get 810.

Same issue on my 2 GTX 560 (Non Ti), 1Ghz fine...
1001Mhz = instant 2D clocks when using any driver higher then 296.10
Yet older drivers I can manage 1115Mhz on one core and 1119Mhz on the other core.
2 cards are the same brand and model purchased at the same time.

My 2 560ti's won't budge over 950Mhz on either card with any driver..lol

Haven't even bothered oc'ing my gtx 670 yet as I think it's going to be a waste of time and effort due to the crappy turbo idea and power restrictions and capped drivers.

I was able to overclock my gfx to 800mhz without changing the voltage on 296.110 and now I have to. this is so bad. I think it's because this drivers was meant for geforce 600 and not older fermi and below cards

Gunna bump this one as I've come across a further development...

I've recently got a GTX580, volt modded it, and got it stable at 1050mhz.

Well anyway, I knew about this OC limit so decided to hard-flash the OC into the card's bios so I could use the latest drivers.

    Guess what?

it STILL limits the overclock to 1000mhz! :bang:

That's right, even though the card is hardware set to 1050mhz, the drivers override it and cap it to 1000mhz. It seems pretty obvious to me that nvidia don't want people buying 5XX cards cheap (like I did) and modding them for superior performance to a similarly priced 6XX card.

You'll have to go back to 296.10 or earlier if you want to oc past 1000MHz. Which is total BS by the way. I'm going to blow their forum up about this once it comes back online.

Yeah, on 296.10 as a result.

I'm not too bothered as I'm sure they've squeezed every last mhz out of the 5XX series by now. I'll lose out on latest game optimisations though, as well as AO profiles, so it's just a matter of time before a new game comes along that highlights this bull****.

I wouldn't mind getting a response from AndyB on this though. An official word from Nvidia would be nice at the very least...

If true, it just seems like they use it as a marketing ploy or a way to artificially weaken older cards to try and push those crap 600 cards and their "Power boost"

Yeah, the power boost crap is precisely why I recently went for a watercooled GTX580 over a 670. Got an EVGA hydro copper2 from scan.co.uk for £275 which is about £100 cheaper than a 670 + waterblock.

The total lack of volt modding on 6XX cards turned me away, but if I'd known nvidia would 'retaliate' by deliberately crippling 5XX cards in software, I might have made a difference decision.

I'm holding onto hope that a reg hack or some such can get round this, but the fact that it overrides the bios clocks if it's over 1000 doesn't bode well...

I have the same overclock throttling on my 480 with all of the 3xx drivers. The last 2xx driver allows me to overclock past 797Mhz.

The question remains why nvidia have done this....

no changes with the old gtx260. same overclock since day 1 still stable and good.

i think it only affects 500 and 600 cards

The 600 series are not affected by this. Its the 500 and 400 series. Not too sure if the 200 series are having any issues either. I haven't seen many clocked high enough to make a difference.

Mine won't go above 1280Mhz, maybe your's isn't limited cause it's the classified?

    Wait, what, seriously?!

So if I were to put my 470 back in, I'd no longer to be able to overclock to 900mhz?
