W8 has already been cracked, true.

but i reckon OEM will be cracked too, via some kind of Keygen + some kind of automatic file/memory/mbr tampering via loader.

pirates managed to crack the hard-arse Ubisoft protection, you think they won't be able to crack W8 OEM and its stupid Slic 3.0? ha!

i'm not supporting piracy or anything, i just want to see how long it's gonna take before this SLIC 3.0 gets cracked, simple curiousity.

my bet, microsoft happiness won't last long. ;)

Don´t quite understand the inconditional hate towards pirates. I always download and try stuff before i buy it. Like a would pay forty euros for some suckass game with a half-naked chick in the cover. Same with windows. If i don´t likeit , i delete.

Totally agree with that sentiment StewieTech.

I download all my games before i buy them.

I ended buying all the total war games bar Shogun 2. Bought Oblivion/Skyrim, Fifa and countless others after trying them.

Bought alot of stuff on steam after trying it out.

There has also been some absolute turds i have missed, such as DN: Forever.

personally i've never considered pirates those who download, try, buy or delete. that's just like trying shoes before buying, as long as you don't steal the shoes it's ok to try, when it comes to videogames, a leap of faith can be costly, nobody want to throw 60$ down the drain.

pirates are those who keep the stuff they download, illegaly. ;)

    Your statement....
Notice the bolded part....which is also the part you've been trying so hard to defend. Also the part I've been trying to tell you is completely wrong.

    Now, here's the facts...

    Source: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Windows-8-OEM-OA-3.0-Piracy-Genuine-Microsoft,16636.html

Notice the difference there? You're claiming in your statement that this change effects everyone, which is in fact wrong. This change will only affect PC "manufacturers" (OEMs) and won't impact end-users or "enthusiasts" at all.

To use the article as context, your statement has to be factual, which your's is not.

I can quote your previous posts if you'd like.... Here's a real good example of you trying to make more of this than it is....

It's tied directly to the motherboard through it's Bios. A UEFI update won't remove the key.....

    How about this one....

You're trying to predict MS overstepping their legal bounds because they've given OEMs something they were asked for. Fact is, MS has already gone as far as they can legally to tie Windows to consumer systems. For MS to even attempt to force this on end users would violate a standing court order that dates back to 2000 concerning "security features" that MS intended to implement starting with WinXP. It would also violate the recent EU ruling that software legally belongs to it's purchaser, not to it's producer/developer.

And on the claim that I'm "attacking" you.... If that were even remotely true, Deltatux would have said something by now. Fact is, you're wrong and your ego seems to prevent you from seeing it for whatever reason.

There is real issue with the English/American language and forcing assumptions on your end so you can appear correct. Lets start with a vocabulary lesson.

Context: Clarifies; gives meaning to; qualifies, what follows or precedes it.

Like stated earlier, what would the point be to link the article if it did not give context to what followed. The only way your argument holds water is if you take the original post out of context. Loved how you even quoted from the article that the original post summarized. The inability to see that is priceless.

Following the flow of a conversation seems to be a problem as well. Everything you cited in the last post was explained um... here: Still missing the mark on what this affects. The fact that it affects OEMs is the issue. It used to be only a representational tie to the motherboard by hash marks. It's a real physical tie now. With this being leaked only compounds the issue. Every OEM rig with Windows 8 pre-installed now has a path to the bios without the user putting it their through AOD or other enthusiast intended software. A virus that borks your bios is more plausable now and is being invited with the leak. Sounds a bit paranoid but so be it. That was my initial thought and was seeing what feedback would come. As usual you and a few others made assumptions that did not exist. Instead of having a civil conversation, an attack; appears to be your preferred method of communication, insued.

Like stated earlier, you had three informative sentences and that's it. You still hold onto assumptions that are incorrect about what I commumicated. You are forced to hold onto those incorrect assumptions because they give your argument meaning.

Think outside the box, since when did attacks necessitate vulgarities, name calling, or unruliness? That's the thing with assumptions; they are rarely right. The only reason Delta would have stepped in was because of the vulgarities, name calling, and/or unruliness or that this bickering back and forth was going on too long. With this my posts in this thread are finished.

So does this mean that every time someone updates his/her bios, he/she will have to buy another copy of Windows 8?

You can get boxed version too, done, fixed. OEM license is by design tied to the computer.

The problem is that Dell and others like that get huge discounts, and then people sell Dell keys. That's not right.

btw, can you remember activation problems with early Vista? I was replacing some parts in my rig and encountered them. Then I called MS and asked them to activate my Windows. They asked me if I can tell them the reason for activation as it found completely different hardware, so I replied that I was upgrading parts in my previous computer including mobo and hdd (which was true), and they happily activated it.

I guess that the problem is greater as a text than it really appears in reality. My understanding is that ones who want to use pirated Win8 will still be able to use it, but such solution should minimize reselling of branded OEM Windows licenses.

I answered that already. Read my previous posts. (Post #29 specifically)

If you buy a new motherboard from Newegg, you'll have to buy a new copy of Windows. If you get it replaced by Dell, your product key will be properly embedded.

Your statement, in your post, was completely wrong. Therefore, linking to the article doesn't give context to your post. The article specifically stated that the Windows product key would be embedded in the UEFI for OEM systems. YOU stated that this would effect EVERY bios. Now, for your English lesson.

Regardless of the English (American English, Proper English or the King's English), the word every is all inclusive. The article, names OEM systems exclusively. Completely different from what YOUR post stated, therefore, no context. As I said, to provide context, the statement MUST be factual....which your's wasn't.

Bios viruses have existed for almost as long as users have been permitted to "flash" the bios. Fact is, the virus has to be written for the specific bios system. A virus written for an AMI or American Megatrends bios, won't affect a UEFI system. A virus written for an Award bios, won't affect an AMI, American Megatrends or UEFI system. Windows still won't be able to alter the bios (considering it's never actually been able to, no change there) and Windows isn't gaining the ability to alter the UEFI system either. The product key is being written into the UEFI code prior to the EEPROM getting flashed with the UEFI system data. This isn't making it any easier for viruses to be written to affect the bios....nor will it make it any easier to write viruses to affect the UEFI system.

You really should look into taking a reading comprehension class as well as a few computer classes.

Post #19, by Nick0323....was informing you that you were wrong.
    Post #34 by pimp_gimp....also saying you're wrong..
Post #36 by Cyberdyne...seems to be in agreement that you're wrong

You really should check your ego.....

And exactly who are you calling a troll?
