i assume the question is rhetorical, as i doubt they have alien heads and dis-proportionally small bodies like that in real life...

    lol

It's not so okay anymore now that it lacks options which are in the CCC or at least enabled in modified drivers. I'm talking about the temporal option which is now available.

i never saw anyone prove temporal actually does anything

ya you can turn on legacy options, doesnt mean they always work

Add dll injection features to RP?

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if it is possible for us end users to add features to RP?

Such as the driver compatibility feature where it keeps a database of recent DX9,DX10-11, and OGL dlls for certain game uses?

But most importantly can we add a feature injecting FXAA and/or SMAA dlls automatically based on game profiles?

I was playing Dead Space 1 again and tried out MLAA 2.0 to see if has improved over MLAA 1.0. It was the same to me, whereas MS or EQAA would take a big hit but looked much better. Then remembered there were FXAA and SMAA injectors and tried those. SMAA looks way better MLAA 2.0 with barely any blurring.

I can do it manually of course, but it would be nice to use RP did it automatically so we can test AA and CFX compatibility quickly.

    Wishful thinking on my part?

Development on this program has ceased

    Therefore; yes, wishful thinking.

RP was so promising. Wonder why John abandoned it? Wish he would make the source code available. Maybe someone could take it over.

well having game profiles to inject, or a big db of old driver files (i manually keep them myself) doesnt need RP necessarily, someone could make a really basic launcher app in any language to do all that quickly

That is possible but then, thats another program to use. I have grown to really like RP and simply want to extend it.

I understand it may be necessary for someone to re-code it from scratch due to abandonment of it.

BTW: On a side note: MLAA 2.0 has improved quality wise... Using
Dead Space 1,2 and GTA4/EFLC for testing, I compared it against the latest injection FXAA 3.11 and both blur text overlays and soften some edges too much, but overall coverage is really good. Even better than MSAA/SSAA due to AA'ing specular surfaces.

But SMAA 1.2 looks A LOT better than both MLAA 2.0 and FXAA 3.11 (don't know what version is built into Nvidia drivers now). Text, textures are sharp with very very good AA quality at HIGH. At ultra, text and corners starts to soften so I keep it at HIGH.

It was like comparing MSAA to SSAA or downsampling.

And how does this seemingly amazing AA-substitute stack up to the others performance wise?

He no longer owns an AMD product, he switched to the green team.

Would love to contribute if I got the chance!

On my system, SMAA is ~ 10% or less hit without AA. That is fast! I would say close to MLAA performance yet the overall picture is sharper and only the edge's are AA'ed.

    Dead Space 1:

Over 100+ FPS with no AA.
    90+ FPS with SMAA 1.2 HIGH / MLAA 2.0 / FXAA 3.11 HIGH only
20-40 FPS with 8x EQAA only

And SMAA is better than EQAA in that specular, surfaces with light bouncing off it, are AA also since SMAA is the last rendering process. EQAA does its job right before the scene is lit, thus those surfaces would appeared as not AA'ed.

Overall, SMAA at HIGH (default) looks between 6x-8x EQAA and it cleans up specular surfaces but at way higher performance. MLAA is still a good choice if you don't want to put DLL files into your game directories, but there is noticeable blurring, just like FXAA.

I can tell you though, 16xEQAA (SRGSSAA) is still better than SMAA but the quality is destroyed on specular surfaces.

I wish AMD would add a SMAA option in the future or tweak MLAA to use similar algorthims.

Download the SMAA injector (DLL files) here:

    http://mrhaandi.b l o g spot.com/p/injectsmaa.html

    Remove the spaces above.

Should really make a separate AA topic for the Red team. I love how Nvidia has FXAA 3.11 built into their drivers (sure we have MLAA), yet that also works in OPENGL games!!!
