    Hi guys,

Is there anyway I can get rid of this? It's driving me mad. I've only had this 7970 2 days and it has started to make this annoying whine noise. I don't seem to hear it when gaming only when on the desktop doing pretty much nothing. Is sending the card back an option? I've read that any replacement will just be exactly the same.

If you only hear the noise at idle....it's not coil whine.

I take it you have tried changing Voltage and Freq settings and still a problem.

I've had those issues in the past and that helped most of the time with
any hardware with Caps, Coils, Chokes ect.

Just installed my new Sapphire 7970 OC Edition and was suppose to have
    those same problems.

    Not a Peep so far.

    Later:)

It's not all the time. Generally after I've played a game it seems to start making noise, so as soon as I've shut down the game the noise starts. Although I did just play Skyrim and it started whining, pretty annoying. I had it OC'ed but just set it back to default, maybe that will help.

try playing around with various fan settings - could just be your fan when its running at a lower speed...

When I start my PC after it hasn't been used for a couple of hours there's no sound and everything is fine. After playing a game though the annoying sound appears, I have messed about with fan speeds and it does seem to help a bit. I don't really want to run at 40% all the time but I guess the sound of air moving around is better than that squeaky noise.

The XFX 7970 BE DD I had made an electrical grinding noise at idle.

After stopping the fans it still made this noise and the sound got louder while gaming.

I posted a youtube video of my card making this sound and about a dozen others had said their 7970 (different brands) was emitting the same noise.

Thanks for the info. Strange, but glad I'm not the only one.
