Four GeForce GTX 670 and 2/3-way SLI reviews [Guru3D.com]

There is bound to be some games that benefit form the extra cores, though i wonder what adding the Cuda features like water and bokeh would of affected the scores, as well as things like GPU PhysX, as most reviewers turn all that off when comparing it to AMD GPU's.

The HardOCP review did show that you could overclock past 680 performance in BF3, but with Batman AC and Skyrim it wasn't that easy.

I don't think the 680 is obsolete by this, just less attractive to those on a budget.

I am glad that there was no stock of the 680's otherwise I would have joined those dissapointed people in there purchase.

I've been reading that review as well and compared it to their 680 review. Turns out a stock GTX680 actually allows higher settings in some games than a stock GTX670.

GTX680

- Batman AC: 2560x1600, FXAA, 16xAF, MVSS and HBAO, Tesselation High, Detail Extreme, Physics Normal.
- Battlefield 3: 2560x1600, 2xAA + FXAA, 16xAF, HBAO, Ultra, Motion blur on.

GTX670

- Batman AC: 2560x1600, FXAA, 16xAF, MVSS and HBAO, Tesselation High, Detail Extreme, Physics Off.
- Battlefield 3: 2560x1600, FXAA, 16xAF, HBAO, Ultra, Motion blur on.

This is why I hate HardOCP's presentation. If they change the settings they better mention it in a separate field instead making us go through the settings field.

Its annoying when you think a card is superior and then see that the other card had higher settings.

Honestly feeling a bit jipped on my 680 purchase atm. I know early adopters tend to get screwed, but this is almost insulting. Near identical performance for 100 bucks less in less than 2 months, from cards on the same assembly line....

Nvidia really played the early adopters hard, and is now made worse by the non-existent stock so people wanting to go 680 SLI and didn't at launch, can't for who knows how long. Meanwhile similar performance comes out at a lower price. Switching means the hassle of selling the old one and hoping for enough stock to make the new purchases. Plus this might adversely affect 680 used/resale value. Oi.

Won't make that mistake ever again...

yupp thank god i waited! Ill get a GTX670 in few months :banana: the GTX680 has no use. unless Nvidia prices cutss ASAP

 

And here was me gunning for a 7870 Hawk for my next Build. Unless it drops a bit in price I may have to grab a GTX 670 (while I can).

 

Funny just after reading the reviews I looked at etailer in Oz and they now have 3 670 brands available.
Evga, Inno3D and a Giggabyte all ranging from $479 ~ $515 (AUD).
Must admit the price is a lot better improvemnet over the 680 prices $679 ~ $769 (AUD)
As for the 690 you gotta be kidding me $1599 (AUD), what a crock...lmao

Overall I think I'll wait till GTX 660/ti comes along or an nvidia card with a $200 ~ $300 (AUD) comes along before I fork out my cash for 2 cards.

guys so here is the thing now, i found a Gigabyte GTX 670 2GB OC edition with 3Fans cooling for $390 CAN .. but im thinking i should wait a tiny bit and get the 4GB GTX 670 instead .. im sure the 4GB memory will come in handy in the future.

Any thoughts?

 

Yep, thats the reason I stay away from HardOCPs GPU reviews. Despite being based on a very logical and realistic approach, they require a lot of mental calculations on the readers to balance out the performance differences due to different settings. Thats what makes their reviews annoying as hell for me to read.

 

I agree. But depends on your res. If you're only on 1920x1080, then not much point. If higher, then yes, I would go for a 4gb model.

 

The same reason I think they produce some of the best reviews.
Not everything can be presented reasonably without using lots of detail.
Unfortunately, gfx card evaluation is getting more complex, not less.
I'm glad they make the effort.

the 670 is occasionally 10fps slower and mostly within 2-3 fps of the 680.

i really like how Anno 2070 is able to showcase the performance differences between cards, the 670 is 12fps slower than the 680, not sure why but imho its the perfect benchmark.

i think the 670 is a great mid-high end card for the price, its going to be a success for nvidia.

bottom line is.. those who can spend extra money, go for the 680 or the 7970, those on a budget, get the 670 or a 7950

if your pockets are full (like me lol) get the gtx690 or crossfire 2x 7970.
