Yeah, even see there are factory overclocked 4GB 670’s going for less than a stock 2GB 680.

Anyone think these also make the GTX690 redundant before it’s even had time to go on sale properly, you can get two stock cards for over £200 less, or two OC 4GB cards for less than a stock 2gb per GPU GTX690.

Yeah, I do. I mean if I was considering SLI then I could save £250-£300 buying two GTX 670s over one GTX 690 if I wasn't too fussed about build quality (there's no denying the GTX 690 is one sexy-looking card with all that metal) and a small loss of performance.

I really do think that NVIDIA have made a bit of a gaff here given the current pricing. The GTX 680 cost £420 at launch and then the GTX 690 launched at £850-890 (over twice the cost of a single GTX 680, granted you're paying for the build quality too). Then they launched the GTX 670 at £300+ which seems to match the GTX 680 to within a few frames per second but makes the higher spec card look a bit overpriced IMO.

Whether those extra frames are worth the extra £120+ is up to the person buying it but if I was buying a Kepler card now I'd go for a GTX 670 rather than a GTX 680. There seems to less performance difference between the GTX 670 and 680 than there was between the GTX 570 and GTX 580.

 

Depends on the scenario really, I mean with me I can't get SLI 670's without either taking out my soundcard or running them at 8x speed. I decided to go with the 690. It is going to eat sales of their higher end cards though. I'm surprised they didn't price it a little higher.

 

P.S. I wonder if the £250 GTX 660 will make the GTX 670 redundant when it comes out and matches the performance to within 5 fps...

 

I think they priced the GTX 670 fine at £300 here in the UK, it's just that the Kepler GPU boost feature works just a little too well and ends up making the GTX 680 look like the high-end model and more like a higher clocked GTX 670. Obviously, no-one wants less performance for their money but I expected that the GTX 670 would also have its memory clocked lower too to widen the performance gap. Surprisingly, that didn't happen and the GTX 670 has the exact same memory bandwidth as a stock GTX 680. It is selling for $50 more than the GTX 570 did though.

 

7970/7950 prices are about to bomb...

 

Wow, I just looked on Scan and the EVGA GTX 670 cards they had listed for £300 and £312 earlier on have shot up to £337 and £353 respectively! :O

I also saw a 4 GB GTX 670 listed for £400 on (I think it was) EBuyer. Makes me almost wish I'd waited now as I paid £20 more for a card with half the memory that is only a few frames per second faster. That's almost, mind.

Nice card, but I am very satisfied with my boosted 680 clocks. Comparing an overclocked 670 to a standard 680 isn't really fair. O/C to O/C is what I look at. Having the best will always cost you a premium, and most 680 owners don't regret their purchase.

 

I have to say, this is one of the most confusing generations ever. What Nvidia did with the Kepler architecture is amazing. This is the first time I've seen such power efficient cards coming from them and the introduction of gpu boost and adaptive vsync is brilliant IMO.

On the other hand, we have 2 gpu's (flagship and price/performance card) who are most of the time less than 10 fps from each other. This doesn't make any sense to me. I mean, who's going to buy their GTX680's now? People who just want the best of the best? You have to be pretty stupid now to buy a GTX680 when you can get a CHEAPER GTX670, oc it and have GTX680 performance for €100 (or more) less.

Am I pissed of? Yes and no! Yes because I bought a card than can get beaten by his "little brother" at a smaller price and no because I had a great (almost) 2 months which makes the €100 sorta worth it. It does suck for people who bought the GTX680 last week or so.

 

Yeah, i saw the 4GB cards as well, considering the asking price of a GTX690 is £900 now, and you could get 2x670 4GB for £800, it would be hard to choose the 690, especially when the 2 670's are much more future proof.

 

Not bad for $400, hopefully we see some in the $350 range after a month, or even less with Rebates. :nerd:

I mean I'm sure driver performance will improve but those improvements will apply to the GTX 670 and 680 equally so there'll still be the same (small) performance gap between them!!!

So, yeah, why buy a 2x2 GB GTX 690 when you can pick up 2x4 GB GTX 670s and SLI them for less. If you're wanting SLI for higher resolutions or multi-monitor gaming then that memory might prove more useful than a few extra frames per second.

 

I thought that about the people who went from a GTX480 to a GTX580 (or worse GTX480 to GTX570), my card with its clocks is the same speed as a GTX580 and it cost me £185 new a year ago (£200 cheaper than a 580 at the time) and has no issues with anything i throw at it (but i do understand wanting the best if you have the moneys - i'm a cheap PC gamer ).

I'm still holding out, my GTX480 is lasting well and i can't wait to pick up a GTX670 for around £250 soon (it'll happen) or a sub £200 GTX580 (i can forsee a Scan deal of the day already).
