I have to agree with this, this is the only time a game scared me (when the dogs jumped through the window).
Half Life - Original Anthology Half Life - Afraid of monsters : directors cut mod Cry of Fear mod for HL2 Paranoia mod for HL 1 No More room in hell mod for HL2
yeah, i agree. i replayed f.e.a.r. perseus mandate few days ago and it made me throw off my headphone once. (the part after you collect a medpack in a alley)
Try Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, one of the scariest game ever. Also, Penumbra and Amnesia games were clearly inspired by this game
you can buy the Wii game and use the Dolphin emulator to play it like i do  another excellent game is The Calling (also for Wii).
Not a single game scared me in the sense of scary story, characters or creepy setting. But I do get startled at times from the audio when I'm in a quiet place and something unexpectedly jumps me. Thats about it.
Thief 3, The Cradle level. Nothing else has ever come close otherwise, maybe the hotel/mansion in VTM: Bloodlines.
gotta say my first really scary game had to be Resident Evil 2. I wasnt very good at i was only 11-12 at the time. My brother played it and i used to watch him. I loved computer games. Anyway, near the start of the game after you got past the main hall of Racoon P.D after the inital fight on the street and down the alley of burning cars. You was directed to an area of the police station taking you down an underground pathway/tunnel, and walking past some seemlessly redundant planks of wood against a black hole loads of zombie hands and head jumped out and tried to attack, the camera on this part of the game was perfectly placed to be almost zoomed in and close to Leon (your character), i jumped off my chair lol. Since then i was hooked on scary games but FEW have risen to the occassion. The next one was probably Doom 3 on the PC, the eerie dark areas and constant threat (and memories from Doom I&II creating the expectation of utter evil) playing on your mind made it even scarier.... The new titles have not really pushed the boat out, Amnesia was pretty good but nothing special. I only get my real scares now from reading books like Shining by Stephen King. Just my few pennies....
you deserve an applause mate. the hotel part in Vampire Bloodlines i mean the game is one of my absolute favorites but the hotel part was very scary.
Monster Maze in 1981.... A retro maze game with a T.Rex The object of the game is simple. Find the exit gate and go through it. Unfortunately, there are a couple of things that'll make that particular objective a bit more difficult, namely: 1. The exit gate is locked. 2. A 20 foot prehistoric lizard, called Rex, that can smell your fear! So, before you can escape, you'll need to find the key, while avoiding Rex. Simple but effective,it did the job when you turned the corner and the ****ing big T-Rex was there and you had the key looking for the exit,i jumped more at games like this than i ever do today probably cause i was about 7 years old instead of 37 years old.
+1 Played the game, but still haven't finished it yet,it was too creepy.Dark Corners's developers must have played System Shock 2 many times.
Try the Silent Hill Series. In Dead Space the game wont pause if you hit the inventory or stores. Although it pauses at... well, the pause menu.
Our perception of what is scary is different to each person. So we all may not agree but for myself for me Doom 3 was very scary for me because of the dark Atmosphere. Especially when the Gate way opens and all hell breaks loose. You knew everything was going F.E.A.R and F.E.A.R 2 also gave me the creeps. There is nothing more scarier than children.
The Original Alien vs Predator always used to do that. Playing the marine running around and you hear the beeps coming towards you, then nothing. Then it would keep happening randomly and then BAM! Alien drops out right in your face. That and the Multiplayer late at night, where you could use the Predator to do his Call. But it would echo around the Map like it was right behind you. Brrr.
