Simple question. Will the following computer:

    Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2GHz
    4GB DDR2-533
    GeForce 8600m GT 256mb

be able to run Battlefield 3 at 800 x 600, all lowest settings, at an acceptable framerate?

    thanks!

hell no lol you would have better luck buying a hamster wheel, two hampsters and some copper wire to hook it up to your monitor.

Not even a single day. nvidia pretty much screwed all mid-range buyers over, by equipping 8600 cards with a quarter of what 8800 had, 32 vs. 128. Now how's that mid-range?!

They realized their mistake and released 9600 with 64 shaders.

It re marketed the then "powerful" 7600GT to tons of young and inexperienced computer enthusiasts like myself :bang:

I never actually regretted the purchase until AMD's 4000 series came out though.

    well i played withcer 2 on 8600m gt 512mb, t7300 2.0ghz, 2gb ram 667mhz..
everything on lowest possible it was "almost" playable :D i would say 15-20 fps.. maybe sometimes drop to about 10..
but i liked the story sooo much, i finished game on normal settings on this setup :p

overall i had acer aspire 5920g (i only changed 5400 rpm 160gb disk to 7200rpm 500gb) and i liked it alot.. actually i still use it as secondary computer.. (disk died so it's back on 5400rpm and battery is death.. it's more than 4years old and i used it 24/7, it was even turned on 24/7)
also i newer considered 8600m gt as bad or "low performance" card.. it worked (khm, it still work) just ok :)

After 8800 came and I saw the reviews I thought 8600 will be a kick-ass mid-range card, considering I had a 6600 GT and also saw how good 7600 GT was. I was sure to buy a 8600 GT.

Then, 5 months later, it got released and boy, I was in for a shock. Just 32 pathetic shaders. I decided to swallow some extra 100$ and get an 8800 GTS 320, and didn't even care about its relatively small memory. Maybe I should've waited for 8800 GT, but simply couldn't. I had to buy a card right there and then. Never regretted that decision actually. It served me well for a long time, until I got a 560 Ti.

I thought the same until I tried to play Farcry and the card struggled....had to go SLI to finish the game with reasonable framerates.

You are amazing. I would have given up after watching the opening cutscene moving at 15fps, let alone the whole game.

Wow ...props dude...I can't bear playing anything once it drops below 35 fps let alone in the teens....Don't know how you can deal with that.

BF3 is like a slide show 98% of the time on 8600M GT.
Don't knock the 8600M GT, damn fine laptop card for it's era as long as you don't expect to much.
    I had a Dell 1720 laptop with a 8600M GT 256MB (which I gave to my mum).
I played fluidly mainly at low detail and custom ultra low res..
Rage (fluidly, no texture popup unlike my desktop)
    FEAR 3 (fluidly)
    Crysis Warhead (fluidly)
    Stalker SoC (fluidly)
    Borderlands (fluidly)
    DeusEX HR (only just playable)
Alot of ppl would be surprised if they had a search on youtube and see vids of how well 8600M GT plays some of these games.
Sure it aint no hi res gaming, but some games are amazing that they run at fluid frame rates on such low end spec card.
