Control panel > system > advanced > startup and recovery

That will give you basic boot options from there. Beyond that, write mbr, bootloader, repair bcd, etc, you would need 3rd party software.

I registered to tell you this.

If you weren't being a dick, you could have gone to msconfig, looked in the boot tab and you'd have seen the boot options.

Next time someone gives you advice, for the love of all that is good, atleast try it.

Stardock has made a nice little apps call Start8.
It add the start menu back to windows 8 and it's free.

    I tried it.

It added the Start Orb, but it calls up the Metro Start Menu, not the regular Start Menu. Rather pointless, in my opinion.

I'm not, since I get it free anyway.

The backside that MS didn't see with it yet is that many new PC's sold with Windows 8 will get even harder competition from Apple, since OSX will seem more obvious and intuitive to operate than Metro.
Try to look at it from a newbies perspective.

As things currently stand, I don't think I'd install it even if I was to be given a free copy.

Had it on my laptop for two days and I gotta say it really is completely none user friendly IMO and I've been using computers a long, long time. Just trying to find your way to something simple is a task and a half. Your average computer user would be completely and utterly bewildered if you ask me.

Needless to say Windows 7 was reinstalled today and all makes sense once more.

I haven't looked for the setting yet as this computer wasn't built for this particular purpose but, Windows8 is essentially in "beta" form and does not have all it's features. It's possible that particular feature will be added for the release version, if at all.

I may be the only one who will ever say this, but sometimes installing OS's anymore makes me miss those nostalgic days of "Format C: /s"... you know... when you practically reinstalled Windows 98 4 times a month simply because A) you could, and B) because it seemed to crash less in the first week or so than it did any other time.

    I only reinstalled Windows98 for 2 reasons.
1.) It was crashing too frequently
2.) It wasn't crashing frequently enough
It was never any fun if it "just worked"....of course, I miss the old days of reloading Dos5.22 and Windows3.1....back when it actually took some degree of effort (mostly to stay awake...)

Not sure if anyone else has found this out, but there is a way to make it so that closing a window/program (for example, IE) actually closes it as you'd expect. Open the "charms" thing by hovering the mouse over the bottom right corner, click Settings, then at the bottom click More PC Settings. Then, go to the General tab and turn off App Switching.
