Ive seen it in movies, i know a little about it. But man i really want to get into it! I never kind of took much notice untill the awesome TopGear episode, and now my appitite is well and truely wet. It's like they said, if the Americans did F1 like they do NASCAR, then it's like everymans/lady's dream. Do they show it in the UK on sky/cable? [I vary rarely watch TV] PM me if you know where i can dow..... races from, GT as well. NASCAR rules. ......... yay.
I watched that, Hammond did do a good job of making it all seem a bit more interesting than I had previously thought it was! Still on the fence about whether or not I actually like it. It looks like lots of fun and they drive so close together! But then I always come back to the reaction that they're only going left.
They Race on Road courses too To Really get the feel of it , you need to see a race live . Nothing like 43 800+ HP cars flying by at 200+ MPH with the cars just inches apart , It just shakes the ground and you can feel the thumping in your chest
Premier were showing all the races live last season, AFAIK they are this season too. Always good to see someone keen on Motorsport. IMO NASCAR isnt as good as it was in the early/mid 2000's. More of a Sportscar fan myself (FIA GT1, FIA GT3, Blancpain Endurance Series, British GT, Le Mans Series, Le Mans 24 Hours, World Endurance Cup,.....list goes on). On terms level of excitement i'd put Sportscars ahead of F1 and NASCAR. Race meetings are cheap also which is a +.
Before thsi gets out of hand, NASCAR is actually extremely difficult. Driving heavy, high horsepower cars, in that tight a bunch at that speed is very, very difficult not to **** up and exhausting, regardless of the turn left lolololo group. Boring as **** to watch though IMHO.
Even on a road course you just go around and around Like i said you need to see a race live on one of the super speedways These things are built like coliseums , Almost every seat you siting in you can see the whole race track unlike a road course where you get to see just a fraction of the course
Anyone that didnt grow up in the States with dirt or pavement circle track doesnt understand it easily. I used to race dirt track in southwestern US in Arizona. Nascar can be boring to watch on TV but in person its totally different. Its prolly just the whole the whole americans like big and fast cars with super loud v8s. It really does take quite a bit of skill to handle a 3400lb racecar with over 800hp at those speeds.
Get ready for Daytona!!!! http://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/?homepage=true http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/
As an American I find it boring...I get that it's harder than it looks blah blah blah...doesn't mean I'm going to watch it. I prefer AMA Motocross/Supercross racing but it doesn't get anything close to the coverage NASCAR does.
I,m a gear head so i love all kinds and types of racing . From Boats to aircraft to cars and bikes and everything in between lol Much more of a racing fan than any other sports
They haven't actually run at 200+ since the 80's. It's rare to see them even approach 200mph with the current "racecar".... You can't see the full track at Talladega or Daytona....and they are the only true "super speedways" that Nascar runs on. Hell, at RIR you can barely see turn 4 from the center of the backstretch. Super Speedways would drive most people away from Nascar due to site issues. Best place to watch is a short track. Martinsville and Dover are the best tracks to see live and in person. RIR was fun before it was "reconfigured".... I can't remember the last time I saw a Supercross race on TV....
I grew up in southern USA and know all about NASCAR. I DO NOT care for it, but after the Top Gear episode (yeah I watched it even though it's not "Technically" available in the US yet ). Last year NASCAR got some negative feedback about the two car drafting. This year they have changed a lot of rules. Apparently going full bore for more than 3 or 4 laps will overheat the engine now, so drivers are going to have to take a lot of care over how they drive. PS: Worst television experience. SO boring.
They been hitting 200+ Earlier testing at daytona Regan Smith 206 mph and Kyle Busch 205 mph even with the smaller restrictor plate they been kissing 200 We shall see tomorow with the shoot out race Edit : Little more info on the speeds this year This was today The sessions seemed to mirror what NASCAR officials saw in January testing at Daytona. The fastest lap in the opening session was 201.762 mph by Matt Kenseth, just ahead of Jeff Burton, who was clocked at 201.739 mph. David Ragan was clocked at 200.151 mph. http://www.nascar.com/news/120217/tstewart-kbusch-wreck-ominous-warning-speedweeks/index.html
