Windows 8 UI is dropping the 'Start' button

    It's very easy to disable Metro and regain the previous Explorer UI.

    Yeah I agree, it forces me to disable it for now.

    But I'm sure it will be addressed, either by Microsoft, or by the game companies.

    yeah hope so i disabled those too cause of that. and i really really like the new task manager over the old one but really windows 8 just gives nice performance boost over 7 :eek:

    Installed Windows 8 on my spare rig this afternoon, along with UT3.
    Happy to say that UT3 works fine with this OS.
    Will probably have to use Black Viper's recipe for Windows 7 to get rid of the unwanted stuff in Windows 8 as well. ;)

    The services disable guide? I'm curious - report back what you find. Microsoft claims to have cut the memory usage from Windows 7 down by ~100mb average by optimizing the services. I bet you find most of what they tell you to disable, already disabled.

    with so many people now having 4 gigs + of ram and windows 8 goal of much faster boot up times and better power consumption, i don't really see the point of disabling services, at least in the final release version anyway.

    uses some 2.1gb on avg off my 8gb ram amount so not bad at all

    4GB EVGA GTX680 FTW 2xSLI
    4 gigs of ddr2 is still enough for any os (inc 8) + usual services and a game!
