It is a well known fact that windows 8 will have Metro UI superimposed on the standard desktop. So depending on the machine being run you would either use the Metro UI (ideal for tablets and phones) or the standard windows environment.
well if the standard windows environment won't be available, and only that ****ty metro style, i'm moving to linux and i'll buy a ps3 for games.
im actually glad they are trying something innovating. we basicly have had the same windows look for years and years. disclaimer: i dont know how well or bad metro works. is the start menu also removed though ? maybe its just the taskbar button. i hope its still there, since i did like the jumplist feature on windows 7
From what I gathered you hover over either of the screens 4 corners and the menu pops up. Could be a nice feature.
It started with Internet Explorer 9 already where to forced for example the Favorites button to the Right side. IE9 was the start of what's gonna happen with Windows 8.
Who knows, after using it you might end up liking it I can see it being annoying if you plan on dragging a window into a corner or something lol.
This is bull**** at it's finest. I had a little play around with the developer preview, and I fond the Metro UI is something I can't see myself getting used to, I found it confusing, and lacking in appropriate shortcuts, and the search function made no sense to me at all. In fact the first thing I did was download a hack to get the start menu back lol. However. This may not be a completely bad idea as it does show innovation, and you can always download a "Dock"; like they use in Mac, to make up for the lack of Start functionality. Sorry Micro$oft, you lost me on Windows 8. Maybe.uke2:
Metro UI is for Tablets. Desktop PCs will have standart UI, with minor changes. The most important thing in new OS is New ReFS and core. New Driver Model and another good stuffs :nerd: Who doesn't trust, try Developer Preview. make your version. :wanker:
I'm going to wait for "close to release" versions before judging. I did try that Win8 developer preview, but it's not final, a bit confusing and seems that soemthing was missing + all not working as it should. Wasnt that preview made more for tablet PC's than desktops ? Really cant say how the final version turns out. No start menu ? Sounds like that they found something better to replace it. Curious to see how it works.
Is it actually innovative though? It's more like a throwback to 80s and early 90s UIs if anything. A consistent UI is good design. Unfortunately, the UI is also the one thing Microsoft consistently changes between each Windows release. *sigh* My beef with Windows 8 is that it's purely focused on cosmetics (and going completely the wrong way IMO, though that's an entirely different problem) and not at all on the technical end. It should have been exactly the other way around.
