all i can say is you better start to prepare for the coming civil war. it is going to be the people vs the govt. i have been buying what i will need for my family to survive for about 3 yrs now. oh, and i will not be on the govt side
Yes you can demand the website be shutdown if you own the IP. Removing it isn't enough. If they refuse, they would be in violation of the laws. SOPA/PIPA would be it vastly easier to shutdown a website. Essentially you file a takedown notice, and bam that's it. As is, you need to go through a lot of crap to get a site taken down. Could take weeks, or months. With SOPA/PIPA: Someone could post IP/copyprotected stuff, right here on guru3d, hidden away in a quiet forum(Links/Archived section at the bottom), or even in.. a private message! And it can be reported and have the whole guru3d website taken down in a matter of days. SOPA/PIPA is so flawed, a joe shmoe can abuse it and take down a multimillion dollar website or online business, in just a couple days. Or even a couple hours.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megaupload Headquarters Hong Kong Sopa already passed i guess they voted sarcastic.
seems legit. i still dont understand how the US gov was able to shut down a site that is clearly located outside of its jurisdiction. has anyone not in the US been able to access MU or is it shut down completely?
Its shut down completely. Many of those arrested aren't US citizens, they have been arrested via extradition treaties since being online its effectively committing a crime in the US. Now, if a website was run by US citizens and was okay for the US, but not for other countries, I can almost guarantee those people won't even be looked at let alone extradicted. Don't you also find it interesting that the chief executive, Alicia Keys husband (a high profile US citizen was not named in the indictment? How much would you want to bet that if it wasn't a high profile US citizen, or that he was a non-US citizen (no matter how high profile), that his name would have been at the top of the list? (I'm not 'attacking' him with this statement, just the system and looking at it realistically)
The people in power in the US, the big money corporations, don't shy away from protecting their ways against US citizens also. Watch hot coffee and be amazed, I know I was. After you watched it please lookup 'punitive damages' in mp3 sharing court appeals.
it seems MU had the majority of their hosting servers here in VA. now i see how the fed was able to shut them down.
End of the world, end of the internet same thing. Many people wake up and go to work, then come home to go back to their real lives on the internet, haha.
The close of MU has nothing to do with SOPA or PIPA,its to do with the owned being a criminal who was into money laundering and other criminal activities, saying that the future doesnt look to good for the internet atm. RIP to the best fileserving service in existence in my opinion.
Silly tbh, because anyone that occasionally downloads something copyrighted, knows that megaupload, filesonic, rapidshare, ... they all take it down if they find out it's copyrighted material. Obviously they can't monitor it a 100% perfectly, but they do shut down those links.
