Hello guys, i have a question, why are games never using more then 700mb VRAM of my card? Played various modern games, they all using the same amount of ram 748mb max, maybe there is something wrong with my GPU, or is that alright? Using 11.11C perf. drivers.

Hi there :) , what Games are you playing ? and what resolution are you running those games at ? Are you using a lot of AA ?

Theres many variables to make a concrete answer to that question , it all depends on the Game been played , Settings of the game , Settings of the Driver ( ammount of AA etc... ) , Resolution of your monitor applied.

Arma 2 + OA; AS Creed; Metro 2033; Stalker SoC/COP; Anno 1404; GTA 4. Res: 1920x1080, im using high quality catalyst settings, ingame AA 2/4x, in metro no AA cause it's most GPU hungry. All ingame settings are maxed out. Oh btw with a winter mod for COP, i got 1,2gb vram utilization, but thats just 1 example that actually used more then 700mb VRAM.

Ok, if some games, might be optimized for 1GB VRAM, then they should at least use 1gb and not 740mb max?

sure ultimate x64, else my 12gig of ram would be pointless :) Btw. whats wrong with my PSU? My PC stays stable, even with oclocked CPU and GPU, no BSODs or freezes. A good saying tells: don't fix whats not broken. :)

Try BF3 on a few map, it will double or triple ur VRam usage :D

Yes i have VRAM usage in BF3 around 1300MB (multiplayer with 64 players), try that.

For that GFX you need at least 550W.. so get a 650w psu. You should be using almost 80-90% of that power supply.

450W is way too weak for a HD 6970... it's a miracle your machine is stable.

it's not a miracle, it's just a firm PSU, not 30$ cheap thing. Quality always payes.:nerd: But yes, ill get new soon, will be 550W, cause i need it for my corei5 2500k rig.

But once again, i know whats lack of PSU power, many years ago had a 300W psu with cheap GPU, then brought me a new GPU - ATI 1950GT, and there were my BSODS and freezes going.

Btw i'm reading a lot of pc hardware related websites/benches, non SLI/Xfire systems, were consuming max 400-500W (with 580GTX it was around 600W or something)
A more powerful PSU is needed for multi GPU systems, thats obvious.

Going for a 2500k rig will decrease your power usage from your current rig. But still i recommend you get atleast a 650w. Its always best if you don't greed out when it comes to PSUs.

just a note my system with my supply at full peek and OC runs at 250-260w..... as long as the amp on the rails are sufficent not everyone needs over 500w in my opinion
