    Hello,

Just wondering if someone could help me with this.

Recently bought a new cooler for my 5770 - it was an Arctic L2 Accelero Plus

It came with a bunch of sinks for the VRAM, but I am not sure how to actually attach these?

Do they just sit on the VRam with thermal paste?

Also according to GPUZ (If I am reading it right) My VRam temps idle around 52c which is quite a few degrees higher than the reported GPU Temp.

Is this an ok idle temp for VRam?

    Thanks.

It comes with a silver pouch that has arctic g1 adhesive and you put some on the heatsink and stick it on there. For my Accelero Xtreme I personally used thermal tape and cut them to ram sizes but this is so mainly I can easily take them off just in case I need to RMA. Adhesive can be a pain to take off but with proper techniques it can be done.

    Thanks for the reply

I thought that was just standard thermal paste.

Do VRam sinks make much of a difference? - As I said mine seem to idle between 48 - 51c
Don't know if this is good or not.

I know its uncool for me to say this, but really? buy a special cooler for a 5770? isn't it a waste of money? I mean 5770 is a very cool card and a middle end performer. There's no real need for more cooling than stock, even if OC'd. maybe if you got a 6950, flashed to a 6970 with OC, maybe there it would be a good buy.
But, hey, that's just my oppinion.
On the other hand, its a nice cooler !

you have all the reason in the world ,but 99% of it.

this particular cooler is so quiet, that sometimes you feel the urge to see if it is really spinning.

as an guru i hate almost all that comes ´default´
you need to give your hardware a guru´s touch.
why we overclock and we gather here to tell about it?
    now it is clear,right ?

Those temps are fine just check to see that the overall temps dont go over 90C when on load (highly doubt it will go that high).

With video cards you will see more yield in GPU overclocking than memory though if you do overclock the ram, keeping them cool is a good idea so you wont get artifacts or graphic issues at high temps. But if you're going to do stock or even mild clocks I'm sure it'll be fine as some 5770s can go 940/1400~ without any voltage tweaks, but every card is different so ymmv.

Hey, you are right, I wont argue about that !
That's why I said it looks cool, as a compliment!

On the other hand I know this is totally offtopic, but anyone has any info about sapphire 6950 2GB Toxic OC? is it any good? does it switch to a 6970 with a bios switch just like that? would it be a good upgrade from my 6850, or should I wait for 7000 series to come out?

I know both the Toxic and Dirt3 edition unlocks with just the switch (no bios modification) but im terms of upgrading I would wait for the 7k series if you're going to spend that much and its within the next month or two. It would be a noticeable upgrade going from a 6850 to a 6950/70 but depends on the game and resolution. Skyrim for example needs to be patched/fixed as even the 6850 performs just as fast as 6950/70 (fps limiter) in most cases though in games like BF3 the raw power of a 6950/70 and the 2GB (at higher resolutions) would be a big bump. But overall if you aren't having any slow downs right now I would wait to see whats new in just a few months that is unless of course you can get a 6950 for really cheap :p.

5770's can get hot once you run the volts over ~1.275v and the GPU over 1GHz. I've seen mine in the high 80's (Centigrade) a few times and am considering picking up a couple of these coolers myself (my only concern is the distance between my 2nd PCIEx16 slot and the PCI slot where my soundcard sits in my P5Q Pro).

Not a problem I totally agree with you. The new cooler is nice but doesnt look as nice as the Stock I had (My card was XFX)

The reason I changed was because the fan started making alot of noise and during a quick fix I ended up breaking two blades of the fan because I wasn't paying attention and rushing :bang:

I could not find a replacement fan anywhere but found this Accelero instead at a very nice price so not much money spent on it at all :)

In my country these are the pricings in USD (I payed my 6850 $260 USD a couple of moths ago):

    Sapphire HD6950 2Gb gddr5 Toxic OC u$s 430
    Sapphire HD6970 2gb gddr5 u$s 520
    Sapphire HD6990 4gb gddr5 Dual GPU u$s 1090

    EVGA GTX 560 Ti 1gb gddr5 DS SuperClocked u$s 370
    EVGA GTX 570 1280mb gddr5 Classified u$s 510
    EVGA GTX 580 1536mb gddr5 u$s 740

Yeah, I know, living in Argentina isn't cheap :S, but bringing stuff overseas throung ebay or newegg is impossible as customs make it really hard and expensive.

On the other hand I believe 7000 series will be more expensive, so for a real bump in performance the toxic OC would be good or would it be too much $ for not so much improvement??

What games do you play and what resolution? And with your current card/overclock are you experiencing any slow downs? Another thing with waiting for the 7k series is the 6k series may go down significantly in price as well. I would also recommend the new GTX560Ti-448 but if the prices are close to 570 might not be worth it and just go up to a 570. In your case though 6950 modded to 6950 would give you most bang for your buck.

    1920x1080 w/ FXAA injector Ultra@stock 880/1375 I get about 50-60fps avg on Skyrim. (vsync)
    1920x1080 FXAA 16x/Ultra @stock 880/1375 I get about 50fps avg on BF3. (vsync)
1920x1080 Max settings @stock 880/1375 perfect play on Saints Row 3.
    1920x1080 Max settings @stock 880/1375 perfect play on MW3.
1920x1080 Max settings @stock 880/1375 perfect play on Dungeon Defender.
1920x1080 Max settings @stock 880/1375 perfect play on Dota 2 Beta. (pretty sure this one doesnt count, full textures not implemented yet.)
1920x1080 Max settings @stock 880/1375 perfect play on Starcraft 2.

Pretty much if you're gaming at this resolution and with a regular 60Hz monitor then all the games out currently can be played at a high setting. 120Hz though may need a 2nd card.

Games where the card doesn't fully utilize all its power would probably be like Skyrim because of drivers and the actual game itself. May improve after a few fixes/patches but who knows.

But in terms of 6870 vs 6950/70 yes you will see a noticeable improvement but that will depend on the resolution and graphic settings (med/high/ultra) you play on. Example if you have a 1680x1050 resolution then a 6870 is more than enough but once you reach higher resolution and maxing out settings it may use more than 1GB of video ram in which 1gb+ video cards will play a big role.

I use 1920x1080 @ 60hz, I try to play on the highest settings but some games just won't go. like BF3, Skyrim, Anno 2070, Saints Row 3, well, I can play most of them in high, not very high nor ultra with silky smooth frames, it just starts to lag on the 30fps wich, online, is horrible and in SP... well, I just like the 60 fps aroundish performance.
I'd like to exploit my 2500k performance and my 6850 with the OC I currently have is almost near a 6870 performance... but its not enough for some games !
I get the "bang for buck" idea of getting the toxic OC 6950 as i can get a 6970 for less money and its the top of the line card, before the dual gpu setup of course wich I hate as CF perfomance is very buggy still.
Maybe i'll wait for the next gen cards to go out and prices to go down, though 430 USD wouldn't be a problem, I just dont want to go higher than 500 USD wich is what 570 and 6970 cost...
All this if there's really going to be a real performance improvement, if not, i'll just wait for next gen cards

There is a performance improvement but I would just wait for the next gen if you're going to invest in that much or wait for the 7k and get the 6k when price goes down a little.

Ok, I get the point. I'll hang out a couple of months and wait to see what i can get for my money.
On the other hand 7000 series will be rebrands up to the 7900 series, right? so there won't be so much of an improvement in performance but in power consumption and heat?
