oh shut up about console ports, most games are just multiplat but coding for crossfire and sli is a pain in the ass that most developers are not very interested in. Even most pc exclusives dont have day 1 support. I dont know why everyone here is on crossfire setups, you should know better especially since 99% of gamers are using single cards.

Gonna see what the situation is the next time I buy new cards. Drivers are late for almost every game and when they finally come there always seems to be problems with them. Haven't even played Skyrim yet, waiting for CF support...

Apart from an 8800gt which I got fed up with waiting for drivers updates ive always been a big fan of ati/amd. i liked the price and the performance and the fact I could count on driver updates every month or so to sort issues.
Since I moved to a cfx set up I've had a lot of driver issue some games being unplayable. Well I never thought I'd say this but I will look seriously at sli on my next gpu purchase.

Yeah, after 2.5 years in a row of shoddy drivers and support (5970 and 6990), my next setup will most likely be an SLI version of whatever card is equivalent to the 580 six months from now. Did my little experiment by owning AMD cards, now it's time to go back to something that is actually good

After having downgraded to an HD 6950 I doubt I'll be upgrading anytime soon.

(Went from HD 5870 CF -> GTX 580 SLi -> GTX 590 with plans to go SLi)

Current catalyst drivers are solid, much better than when I owned the HD 5870's.

The GTX 590 had microstuttering issues (relatively high frame rates looked choppy & or felt slower than it should be).

Backing down to an HD 6950 seems to be have worked out fine. It runs BC2 & BF3 just fine...Although it would be nice if AA didn't drastically kill FPS in BF3 on AMD cards...

    +1

I always buy whatever card has greater "bang for the buck" at any given time (8800GT, 4870, etc). It seems naive to me to blindly go with one brand over another of anything, let alone hardware components that become obsolete extremely quickly.

Also, both Crossfire and SLI seem to be more hassle than they are worth, especially for people using single 1080p monitors... now if you want to use a 30 inch screen or dual monitors then I guess things could be different...

as i said before, for best bang/bucks single GPU solution for everyday use ATI maybe an interesting alternative.
for a "iamfilthyrich" multi GPU config made for gaming only, nvidia is the only solution, unfortunatly.

again ati make exellent hardware, passable driver for average user, but horrible ones for enthousiasts. the problem, it's the people who happen to have spend the most on their rig (and so supporting the brand), hang around here the most, and are often know by their friends as the "computer wiz/geek" who will select the components even for an average rig.

i don't have to point the fact people with the biggest e-pen are always the one that brag the most about it, so really if AMD would just take better care of the reputation of their flag ship dual gpu card or crossfire for that matter, i think they'll gain a lot of market parts from nvidia just from people talking about it.

it wouldn't take much, probably stop to release a driver each month on a fixed date, but only release it when it's really done, tested and approved. that'll remove pressure from them, give them time to do a good job, and this way people wouldn't have to download 4 to 5 drivers a months, compare every files and even rebuild their own drivers file by file to get all the fixes. nvidia is doing just that and it seem to work quite better that way.

Going Nvidia on next purchase... Was looking forward to the 7xxx series however will prefer to pay much higher prices and have a better workign product than opposed to not being able to play a title for 40+ days with crossfire. RAGE was a 'big' title and it's still not supported, now they keep releasing caps that disable crossfire even when they work fine WTF!? What on earth is wrong with with this company?

If I wanted to subscribe to incompetence and dissapointing lies I'd pay attention to politicians rants, tthe same applies with amd's late or never delivering 'performances/enhancements'.

Not a fanboy, usually went for best bang for buck.. That bang has some huge downsides and I'll end up paying more for nvidia however less stress and better compatibility.

Either big changes need to happen NOW or yeah I''m jumping ship on the next Nvidia 680 or 690 opposed to the previously plans on purchasing a amd/ati 7990 series.
    Fix your leaking ship amd.

I download the official drivers once a month.
Drop the fallacy about NV drivers schedule because they have lots of betas that people keep trying as well and loads of issues.

From a NV latest driver from a forum i cant link to here.
No different than AMD accept that they may have multi GPU profiles ready before AMD but there are ways around that.

WTF GrandMax are you on drugs mate? My 6990 has been a beast and have had minimal driver issues cos i was smart and worked out which drivers where best for my system configuration, it's not hard...

Can't wait for you to move to the green team and have the same driver issues cos you can't work out your own configuration issues, this is another garbage moron moan thread, seems to be one born every minute and a thread produced straight after...

Heres a free tip: defrag your system, remove all your spyware, porn and junk apps, remove drivers properly before installing updates, call your mum every week, get a girlfriend, give to a charity oh and research your PC issues properly or get a console.

    Douche.

Not being rude, however if that's the only conclusion or thing you have to say in reply to what I posted then please be quiet... Everybody knows they were heaters and downclocked 570's or 560s...

They had issues sure, however 680sli or a 690 will almost definitely be my next purchase due to this constant disappointing driver nonsense. Never said nvidia is perfect however, they have SLI profiles for RAGE yes? Crysis 2 works on NVidia far better than an ati setup..yes?....

I purchase gpus for games, could care less about the company to be honest, and so far amd have been screwy....Great bang for buck single cards, hit and miss on crossfire and the pace for improvement is as terrible as ever.....

An updated cap disabling crossfire is not an update. Fixing one thing and breaking 6 others is not an update... An update on the RAGE driver they mentioned 40 odd days back has yet to resurface.......Why? It's either not going to happen, or it's around the corner, or way off from release.... either way it's 40+ days and still no crossfire support.

I wasn't talking about the 570's or 560s... was I, i said NV dual card, not dual cards, i said dual card=590, the clocks and heat was not the point.

You have a dual card GPU in your sig, there's the relevance and that's something you should of worked out for yourself.
If the timing was different then you could of ended up with a 590 instead of the 5970 then moaned if you had one that died and said im going AMD next time.

Its the same mind fallacy that Apple like to perpetuate, "It Just Works" and as you can see the fallacy works for Apple and NV no matter how many people post issues with both brands.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13416272

I get pissed off with driver issues when i have them, it would make no difference which brand i was using, i just don't have many issues to complain about.

How can they say BF3 had crossfire issues in launch when the reality is that it was working great in crossfire ever since the beta?

Hell I'm running 4-way crossfire, which you might expect would be more error prone, and have had no issues with BF3.

Its funny because I never have half the issues alot of people complain about with ATI cards. I think alot of it has to do with other componants in your system but are just too quick to blame the GPU because the only time you see an issue is in your game.

I had an issue with a 4870 x2 but it was a physical design flaw. I even had one issue with a bad stick of ram that was dying that would only show its head during gaming.

I just dont understand why so many people have issues. I think some people are just breaking there rigs because they update to a driver that they didnt really need in the first place.

If it aint broke dont fix it rule needs to be remembered when updating drivers. If they claim a 5% increase in performance from one driver to the next. Are you seriously going to notice it without runing some benchmark?

I played BF3 on 11.4 drivers. I only upgraded to see if it gave me a performance increase but it only showed in benchmarks, visually I couldnt tell the difference.

Seriously guys, take a day off and explore your rig a bit more and make sure you are not experiencing some incompatible hardware. Especially if one rig with the same video card works fine in one but not in another.
