If your Steam "forum" user and password is the same as your accounts user and password, CHANGE IT NOW!

Depends on a variety of things. Howe deep and bad the hack was, and how Valve are fixing it and improving security.
The forums could come back up today... or next month. There's no way to really know.

They don't need a reason, just do it to see of they can and maybe try to get some personal info while at it.

That's the main reason most people that do hack something do it.
Though, there are also the idiots out there that do it because they're trying to find something/steal something... or they think they're being funny.

I can't believe the Steam forums are still down. Also Steam seems to be affected too as I filed a ticket for support for Serious Sam HD several days ago, something I've since fixed actually, but have yet to receive a single response from them. It must be very frustrating for people with game issues as there's no easy way to contact them until the forums go back online. You'd have thought they'd have put something on their website to let people know how look it's going to take.

4Chan is the ******* of the Internet. Nothing but **** comes out of it. Well, sometimes blood. Occasionally hamsters as well.

Ah, is that why the forums were down last night.

I must be seriously dumb, as i do use the same password on my account as i do on the forums, but should be ok as Steam Guard is enabled, but that is Valve's problem not mine, and what is the worst they could do if they did get my account details.

Steam requires verification by email to access your account from another source. Not that a big of a deal. Also use different pass to your Steam login from Forums.

if they were able to get on your account, go onto a VAC server with cheats, your account would be VAC banned, doesn't matter that you weren't the one that used the cheats

I don't play MP, so i could probably live with that, still wouldn't want it to happen though.

Placing my faith i Steam Guard right now though, too lazy and forgetful to use multiple passwords.

Fantastic, so i might need to change everything else due to this.

Does make you wonder who is next, and while these things do make security tighter, we all know that is not the reason these little tits do this.

Well, that's why they have your STEAM forum account and your STEAM account separate. With separate (or should be) passwords.
And your password for your e-mail should be different as well. As long as you've got STEAM Guard on, nobody could access your account from another PC anyways.

When trying to access an existing STEAM account from a new PC, you need to verify it with a code that is e-mailed to you.

But yes, this does suck. And while I don't have any credit card information saved to my STEAM account... it's still a bit unnerving.
