How is this for a budget build, what needs to be changed...

    AMD Athlon X4 640 3ghz
    MSI 790GX-G65
2x Kingston Value RAM 2GB(4GB total)
    Coolermaster Elite 350 case
    Chieftec 500w psu
Gigabyte HD6850 OC version(on sale, so cheaper than standard HD6850)

How will this play most modern games, especially Skyrim and GTA IV?

That's all out of budget. I live in Estonia, but the prices aren't much more than in the rest of EU. Budget wise I'm lookin' at 350€, maybe a tad bit more.

BTW Chieftec make actually some decent psu's, for their price.

Yeah, it's probably the cheapest one in my country. Most of the stuff is around 5€ more than elsewhere, but it's ok considering the other online stores... Also just noticed a thread about unlocking Phenom X2's. X2 555 is like 10€ cheaper and there's a possibility to unlock extra cores, but how high is the possibility of that happening and is it worth to try..?

Here you go! The prices are pretty good and most of the stuff that one might need is in stock.

BTW I'm Finnish myself so I can figure out most of what it says on that site :p. The CPU, RAM, Case and GPU (XFX) are good. I'd switch the PSU to Corsair CX430 V2 45 eur, and the mobo to Gigabyte H61M-USB3-B3 61 eur. The H67 chipset is only really needed for the SATA6 which is useful only for SSD's. But an SSD has no place in a budget gaming build. Also don't you need a DVD drive? Samsung for 14 eur.

Overall you're looking at around 400 eur. But you could save some cash by going with a Pentium G840 2.9Ghz for 70 eur. It's basically an i3-2100 with no hyperthreading and 200mhz lower clocks.

+1,000,000 on the i3 2100. thats a little gaming monster. btw that pentium chip is 2.8 not 2.9 and I recommend ht with a dual chip. some games will use the 4 threads no doubt

Those parts you suggested actually shave off around 30€ and that's a good thing. As for the DVD drive, I was thinking about using the one from my current pc, but it's an old IDE drive and it sometimes has some quirks, so I'll take the Samsung one.

One more question, how big of a performance difference does the Pentium have, if compared to i3-2100. Won't the lack of Hyperthreading have some noticable differences in games that utilize more CPU resources, like BF3 and such..?

Can't do that, I live in Europe.

Yeah, I'm actually kinda worried about this, I do think the i3 is a better choice, since I'm planning to keep this rig for like 2 years or so. My current one is like 6 years old, so as you can notice I don't upgrade much.

What i meant was, that you look for that specific model on the site that you are buying your parts from.

Just go with the i3 it is faster, especially in games that can use 4 threads, like bf3

well since you arent oc what are the price differences between the i3 2100 and the higher clocked dual cores with ht?
