Don't wish the kidnapped person any harm, but it would be good if Anonymous dropped a dime on the Zetas anyway, just to expose the real depth of corruption in Mexico and elsewhere!

Now that's hacking in the public interest!

The problem with campaigns against individuals is that there's a large risk of misrepresentation and ruined lives.

The same doesn't apply to organizations, be they multinational corporations or organized crime cartels.

So Anonymous knows "cartel secrets as well as the identities of the journalists, taxi drivers and police officers it believes are complicit in allowing the Zetas to thrive" but will keep quiet if they release their hacker?

Something fishy about this. They would take action to save one of their own but not reveal their info if he's released even if its costing the lives of hundreds of other innocents?

They have to say that no matter what or they will never get the guy released.

it's bargain power. If they say we are going to release the info trololololol you can't do nothing, the cartel will just kill the guy and the op will had failed.

Now, it seems that this op was brought down by some anons, considered too dangerous and risk inocent people. But others says it's time to act, that something must be done.
In the end, imo they'll be acting in the background even if they say they aren't doing anything.

Nope, it's probably a very good way of getting their member killed.

waiting for milkbride's anti-4chan crusade post

also, anon needs to be careful. these guys aren't some internet nerds or clueless scientologists. if they do end up killing the guy, their action needs to actually have a big impact. not sure if doc dropping will do much in a corrupt country.

Unfortunately that doesn't preclude it from being in the public interest.

Milkbride :D . Anywys, he has Yellow Card (timeout) atm, not sure how long that lasts.

I dont want that anon to get killed, but I'm also interested to see if they can really do antying vs drug lords. Even if that anon is released, they need to get him to safe country before they can begin strike vs Mexican drug cartel.

Yeah he PMed me and that wasn't it.

Back on topic, I really don't have a problem with the fact cartels sell drugs, but they are rather heinous with violence and murder. Add that to the fact they have corrupted much of the Mexican legal system.

As much for the guy kidnapped, I don't think the Zetas are going to for the trade. Dealing with Anon would only be a sign of weakness, as much as I understand and would side with Anon on this issue, I think their public statement should it ever reach the Zetas is a death sentence for whoever they are holding.
