Hi, i read some threads and how-to´s about softmodding the previous gtx models like the gtx460. they have equivalent QUADRO models and so it is possible to softmod them to a QUADRO. But there are no Quadros technically equal to the newer ones like the gtx 570. Until now it seems that you can´t softmod them. Is this the way nvidia goes? First the GEFORCE series update then the QUADRO? What about the past? About the gtx 460? Was it the same thing? May it be possible to softmod the GTX570 when the QUADRO comes out with GTX570 architecture? I need a softmod because i only do CAD (university) on my workstation, no gaming. I just set up my new system (including a gtx570) and noticed that it isn´t possible to do a softmod. Now i think about selling it and order a gtx460 with 2gb for my CAD-work. I want to use the special features a quadro offers, especially in solidworks and 3dsmax/vray. so my questions: when will it be possible to softmod the gtx570? will it be possible, or does nvidia wants to stop that softmod-thing? or should i sell it now and get the 470? thx for help, jan (sorry for my not perfect english, i´m from germany :nerd
It can't be done any more, the last card that could be softmodded to Quadro was the 8800 ultra if my memory is correct.
True, but the GTX 275 with 1.8 GB VRAM could be converted to a Quadro FX 4800 but using a Quadro BIOS: http://aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=graphics1&action=display&thread=1043 You can get the BIOS here.
What do think about this page? It sounds easy.... When i check the comparison lists, i see that a gtx 470 could be turned into Quadro 4000, 5000 or 6000!!! Did you softmodded a gtx 275 to a quadro jabloomf?? Then i check ebay and get one... http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=88&pgno=5 http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=95&pgno=3 http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=539&pgno=9
Has that actually been confirmed as working though? Cool if it does but I don't see how it could as GT200GL and GT200B aren't even made on the same die process.
Impossible. After 7000 series Nvidia hardware locked the id's so Quadro bios can't be flashed. But still ATi FireGL is possible with Radeons
It was a confirmed failure - the Quadro BIOS messes up the power settings of the card: http://aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=graphics1&thread=1082&post=7869
What kind of software do you have to use? Most of autodesk works with gaming cards too, no need for a softmod. Plus gaming cards are a LOT faster. Quadro cards are generally slower (less shaders and lower frequencies) and equipped with ECC memory for reliability. If you need to do a lot of scientific calculations you might consider to downclock and make sure that the card gets proper cooling.
