Hi, For some time now I've been considering to go SLI. Next week I'll order my second GTX 580 but there's one thing I want to make sure: Is a Corsair HX850w PSU sufficient enough for the following system? Mobo: ASUS P8Z68 v-Pro CPU: Intel i2600k clocked at 4,3 (speedstep enabled) GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 580 SC HDD: OCZ Vertex 3 120GB Max IOPS, Seagate 1TB MEM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB stock speed And a total of 7 fans (2 CPU fans included) I've seen topics about power consumption for the 580 in SLI, but never about the EVGA SC editions. Thanks!
are you planning on oc'ing both those cards higher than the factory overclocks? if not, youll be fine with what you have. close, but fine. if you are, then id recommend the hx1050.
The Corsair HX850 is a solid unit. Even though you system might reach nearly 850W (which most probably it wont), your PSU will be able to handle it no problem.
Even overclock this baby is able to push you're SLI GTX580 and 2600K (95w TDP). It's gold rated so it can give you 800W under full load, and that is a lot compare to even some cheap 1000W that produce 750W at full load... Don't even worry!
Seasonic X-850 is comparable to Corsair AX850, not HX850. HX isn't 80+ gold. It's still a great PSU though, you shouldn't have any problem. 7 year warranty to boot Also fr0stx your seasonic unit is so heavily overspecced that it can push 1000W at 45C ambient http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Seasonic-X-Series-850-W-Power-Supply-Review/1169/8
pc power & cooling 760w silencer. Runs cool even on high load. Very well built psu. Enermax is my first choice but sadly they dont make single rail designs on their upper higher end psu. And the other, the price is deadly for some people. Extremely well built psu but probably the highest cost psu for pc but they are extremely rigid.
You'll be fine, HX850 will power that easily, even with heavy OCing. I'm running an i7920 @4.4ghz with 580 sli cores @ 840 and my AX750 has been running strong for a year now. I've had this PSU at around 95% capacity for hours (when stress test benching) and all voltages are rock solid, the unit hardly heats up, gets warm at best. Very high quality PSUs such as the Corsair HX and AX series can operate at near max power output for days straight with no problems, its because they are very efficient and don't heat up much.
