AMD Catalyst 11.8 Preview Driver (8.880.3 July 11)

My PC freeze when I play BO during one hour. Black screen. When the image return, was monochromatic. I need press RESET. Scary thing.

 

I wonder if 11.8 increases the voltages more than 11.7 on the cards while in 3D mode.
It runs a lot smoother all over but after some time the card just crashes into blackness and the system needs a reboot.
Would also explain why not all are getting crashes, since components usually come with a +/- X% offset, so some cards will be pushed harder then what they can take.
I don't have a tool installed so I can track it, so if someone could do that, and see whats going on it could maybe uncover the issue.

Just played RIFT for some hours on the 5870 to do a retest of 11.8, and got one of them crashes a few minutes ago.

 

Excellent drivers, best I've used so far. Very acceptable performance in BC2, although I think there's been a regression with the DX11 BC2 CTD, which I get every hour or so.

Other than that very smooth, keepers for me.

Is here anyone who have experienced strange sunshafts corruption in games based on Unreal Engine 3 especially Bulletstorm and Sanctum with catalyst drivers since 11.6 version to 11.8?
Sunshafts edges resolution seems to be low as possible from half of the screen.
It happens on HD5870 1Gb RAM.
Only solution working for me is to downgrade driver to 11.5b version.

 

Overall good drivers, average performance, good stability, plus I was getting higher temperatures before, not sure why..

Not at all! All temp and fan speeds work normal for my mobility. Your better off doing a clean install. Unistall previous driver, use Driver Sweeper, and the registry cleaner for CCleaner works very well on removing ATI registry files after using Driver Sweeper.

 

I am having issues in the Car lot at Shift 2 with catalyst AI enabled

 

Slight performance increase here in Dirt 3, Dirt 2, BFBC2, Unreal 3, seems stable so far, will have to do a bit more testing

but at some points cat 11.6 gives me more fps than 11.8 :S

 

i think they're aware of the sunshafts issue & it doesnt affect 4800 cards like me

 

I think he's talking about the HDR shadows bug, where they flicker rapidly around the very edges of the model graphic

This is a bug that affects both Radeon and Nvidia, its always been there, you can load up Bulletstorm, and the two main characters at the title screen show rapid shadow flickering at the very edge of the model shadow environment

This bug has been in Unreal 3 and Unreal 3.5 games forever on PC, its too do with that at a SPECIFIC, and I mean very very specific angle of HDR lighting, along with a VERY specific camera angle will cause this bug to pop up every time

I can also get it to happen in Unreal Tournament 3 with the character model viewer for Custom character set up, the second it loads the shadows around the edges flicker like mad

 

11.8 Preview hasn't had this problem for me. Bulletstorm and Borderlands don't have any shadow flickering. Running great and looking great.

this is what i get on my HD6970 with CAT 11.6 and 11.7.
can't say if earlier CAT builds had it too.

11.8 preview on 6990.

1st install (upgrade from 11.7) failed - CCC not working.

Drivesweeped...

2nd install - works, but...

#1 No 3d settings in CCC - just an empty page.

#2 After creating triple monitor eyfinity config CCC shows 4 monitor. Bezel compensation is not possible.
