4870x2 + 9800GTX+ as physx don't work, help!

Hello, one more time.

All day i tired to run 4870x2 as main card and 9800GTX+ as physx and nothing worked :bawl:

Can some one be so kind and explain me how i can acheve this?
I'm not that good with ATI cards/drivers :/

i tried to fallow this tutorial and it din't worked... :/

Can it be cause i try to do all this on SLI motherboard?
Can it be cause i try to do this in Vista 64bit?

Can someone please help me to run 9800GTX+ as physx?

Vista only allows a single videocard driver. Mixing Nvidia and ATI only works on XP and 7.

I also thought you needed a lucid hydra chip (opposite of nf200) to mix ati and nvidia cards

everything is working on Windows 7

i have one last question, how i can get physx tab to show up in nvidia control panel?

because its not there. GPU-Z shows that Physx are ok/working

 

ppl have been using nVidia cards for Physx with Ati Cards, for years.

There is just a hack for it, no need of anything else .

That's if you want to use both for rendering. Lucid Hydra has nothing to do with Physx.

 

Yes u have done everything correctly, ur physx card should work now, chk with some physx benchmark softwere and play some physx supported titles .. Enjoy mate ..

 

it was working good for a day, after then my 4870x2 died... i think vram was overheating and i started to see lines on screen even in bios..

so i got my money back and got my self a GTX280 AMP Edition from Zotac

its kinda sad that my 4870x2 got damaged... it was a really nice card.

Now i have GTX280 and 9800GTX+ for physx can't complain about it, games run very nice, now even Shift 2 runs on max settings without any problems, cause i had much troubles with 9800GTX+ SLI and Shift 2, performance was really bad..

Still thanks everyone for help just too bad i cloud enjoy 4870x2 performance for as much as i expected :/

 

still 280 might be a good card, but it hard to understand why u have purchesed a 3 years old card !!

 

IF You had the option you must have gone for a GTX460 or GTX560 instead that GTX280
and Just overclocked it a little .So you could enjoy ِDx11 . by the way GTX280 is still a
good Card but I hope you get a good deal on it as I heard that in some places they are selling them very cheap to empty their stock

 

that 4870x2 was used card(cheap price tag), tho it was clean and looked like new. i got it cause its performance was better than 98000GTX+ SLI, too bad that card died... but still i got my money back and bought a GTX280 from a friend, also cheap!

in my country everything have a very high price tag unless its used...

taxes are like 21%...

i'm thinking to go for GTX280 SLI or GTX560Ti but 560 SLI will cost me lots of $$$ :/


i don't play (at this moment) at HD resolutions, i play at 1440x900 19inc widescreen monitor so GTX280 is enough for me

Here is a price comparison (in my country) New vs Used
New - GTX285 1GB = ~520$
Used(perfect condition) - GTX285 1GB = ~160$

 

I'm kinda thinking you believe Shift 2 is running better because of 9800GTX+ being dedicated to PhysX. Is that it?

There are two kinds of PhysX, so to speak: the "GPU Accelerated PhysX" and "Software PhysX". The first is implemented through CUDA cores only, therefore, needs an nVIDIA card to run properly.

Shift 2 has "Software PhysX" implementation which can be run by any card, ATI/AMD included. Having a dedicated PhysX card will not have any performance impact in that game. Remove the 9800GTX+ or disabled Accelerated PhysX and Shift 2 performance will be the same.

Only games like Batman: AA; Metro 2033, Cryostasis, Dark Void, Mirror's Edge, Alice: Madness returns and a couple of other VERY OLD titles benefits from having a dedicated PhysX card.

You have now a good performance NOT because the PhysX card BUT because you aren't in CF anymore and GTX280 is a good DX10 card. I had same issues playing Shift 2 in CF sometime ago, too.

Sorry if I'm bringing you old news and you already know this stuff but, the way you wrote things before made me wonder...

i tested 9800GTX+(physx) with Mirrors Edge works perfect (if there will be a good SLI support for Shift 2 i think 98GTX+ in SLI should perform even better than a single GTX280)

i added 9800GTX+ for physx because it was laying around doing nothing

I understand. Is very much what I did with my GTS250

My question/doubt is if you really have performance gains with a dedicated 9800GTX+ over the GTX280 running PhysX alone. I mean, the 9800GTX+ has 128 CUDA cores -- same as GTS 250 --, and the GTX280 has a lot more cores, almost doubles it: has 240 CUDA cores. If I were you, I would run some PhysX tests and benchmarks just to be sure the 9800GTX+ isn't bottle-necking your GTX280 in those applications/games using GPU PhysX.

If I could find a good used 9800 GTX I'd get one to run with my 4870x2 (and futuire 7000 series card) ... but I can't seem to find one.... ;-(

The best I can find where I live is an inno3D 9800 GT that the guy is asking ~85 $ for and claims is in the original package and has never been used (which is probably a bunch of bullsh1t).

What do you guys think?

dint tested running only GTX280 but i'm going to!

there's absolutely no difference in performance....

what should i do? take out 98GTX+ and let her collect the dust?

 

Thanks, I'll look into a GTS250. The cheapest I've found a new one for is ~110 $ here by inno3d. I'll keep my eye out for a used one.
