hehe yeah I forgot to mention, do what I said once your more or less set for your max oc back in the day of AMD Winchester chips I would do 8h of prime for every 100mhz oc i did...

 

I have successfully been able to boot into windows at 4.7ghz and 1.380v.

I got a bsod when running intel burn test, will now increase cpu voltage to 1.4 and re-run the stability test...

 

Haha, nice! Best to go out while leaving prime95 doing the stress test...

You are correct. If I was to play a certain game for 3-4 hours, then a 3-4 hour stability test would determine if it's stable or not, so the longer the test the better...

Anyway, booted up at 4.7ghz, applied a voltage of 1.430. Previously tried 1.4 but I got a bsod when running a stress test.

It seems very stable at 1.430v, is this ok for a 24/7 running time?

Here are the results from the stress test I just ran, it was set for 8 times to run & set to VERY HIGH stress level, I wanna make sure it's 100% stable...

The absolute HIGHEST temperature went upto 81.0 degrees celcius on core number 2, other cores went to MAX 78 celcius.

Are the results any good?

different users will tell you different things now most would prefer to not go over 72c but if ibt and prime get those temps out of it, then a game is gone be at least 10-12c lower. Personally im happy as long as I stay around 82c max after a few hours of prime blend

update: btw ive noticed you go by the temp from hwmonitor, install coretemp and real temp, they are gone be around 4-5c higher and that's the ones id recommend to go by

As for temperatures, the cpu was being stressed not on default level but on very high. If it was default it would of been below 70...

With regards to gaming, i've not seen temps any higher than mid 50's...

Running cpu voltage at 1.430 is ok for 24/7 use, it won't degrade or shorten the lifespan of the cpu?

 

1.43V is fine if temps are good.

 

I was giving an extreme worst case scenario. I am using a low profile Arctic freezer 11 cooler. I don't average 70+ but it does hit in the 70's after long periods of BC2 playing. But this is with the summer outside temp of 30C though.

Right now as I type this idle my temps are 45C. But my point was 70C is ok for Intel CPU's on stock volts...

I just played around 45 mins of BC2 and my temps are 55C. But it must have hit 70C at some point because my max temp in realtemp says 72C. I think really the only time you guys should worry about higher temps is when you increase your volts on your CPU's. Stock volts there is no issues with killing your CPU in my opinion...

Same here, idle temps around 45 and load in games between 55-70 tops...

Never had over 70 in games...

 

Managed to get 5Ghz stable and with good temps on 1.42 v, but cba to push it that hard for 24/7 use right now. 4.5Ghz is already overkill as it is atm, this cpu's a beast.

Though it'll come in handy sooner or later when it's not brand new hardware anymore.

Satan, I had a 5.5ghz oc running on air and it was fine

 

Zalman cooler, to lazy to look it up atm, guess I just got lucky. It was prime stable for about half an hour and I didn't test it any further.
I stressed my Q6600 for so long that eventually it wasn't stable anymore on it's maximum overclock. Keeping that in mind, I'm going to stay at 4.5 now and bump it up to 5 when it's needed.

Btw, proper multicore games like BC2 really do get closer to prime95 temps.

Oh and... no more fun dips for you. What alcohol does to my brain, sugar does to yours.

cpu 1.40 or higher depending on clock speed but dont use more than 1.38 for 24/7 use.

 

I'm using 1.430v at 4.7ghz, any less than 1.430v I get bsods when stress testing and is unstable.

I'm sure running 24/7 at 1.430v isn't too bad, I've seen many people running 1.5v plus...

Plus, my idle and load temps are excellent, mid 40's idle and 55-65 when gaming, rarely it gets to 70/71...

 

the only question you got to ask your self is how long will I hold on to this chip? if you want it for years, treat it well, if you know youll be getting a new one in 6 months then you can be a bit more adventures

 

I wouldn't worry too much about the 1.38v limit, the people who originally stated the 1.38v, ocuk, have now started selling overclocked 2500k's (4.8ghz) at 1.4v.

 

Say a year, I like to upgrade to the latest gear regularly...
