4.8ghz overclock 2600k

When using IBT ensure you set the number of threads to 8, and usage to Very High

I wouldn't be overly bothered about using IBT on Sandybridge, it's simply not reliable enough.

I can run it all day long, and still get a fail within 2 minutes using Prime 95 blend if the OC isn't stable

Kanej2007 can you do me a favore, set your vcore to 1.55, enable llc and change mp to 55 and see if it boots in to windows? if not go 54,53,52. Youll have an idea what your chip can do if you ever decided to do some proper benching and get watercooling or better;0

Lol, you trying to fry my 24 hour old cpu??

I'm sure I can get to around 5ghz without a problem, only I have to wack up my cpu cooler near the max and my pc will sound like a jumbo jet...

All I can say at the moment is after gaming for several hours, got no more than 49 degrees LOAD temps..

Tried Crysis 2, Battlefield 2 Bad Company 2, Mafia II, Medal Of Honor & COD Black Ops, all maxed out at 1920x1080 & 16XAA & 16XAF...

Crysis 2 had an average of 50fps, minimum 40's, rest of the games a constant 60+fps...

My new baby, I highly recommend it, slightly outperforms the Noctua NH-D14 but this is when running the cpu fan speed near maxed out, and it can get LOUD!

Mine is kept at around 60% It does the job without giving me high temps...

 

Just upped the speed to 4.548ghz... I previously tried 4.6 @ 1.350v but it wouldn't boot.

I'm certain I could get 4.6 or higher but will need 1.380 or even 1.400 or more volts...

@ Sdamaged, what have you set your voltage to for a 4.8ghz overclock? Are you on air or water?

Now running intel burn test, high stress level and set to run 20 times.

Max temps so far have been 72 celcius...

do yourself a favor and run p95 blend. I could pass 50 run max 8 threads and fail p-95 blend in seconds.

 

True, it's always better to run at least 2 different programs to test for stability and also to be on the safe side...

One could very well be different from the other.

I shall run p95 blend tomorrow morning as it's almost 4:00 am where I am so heading off to sleep...

Lol I went to sleep after you posted the message, hate leaving me pc on overnight due to the flickering lights/fans/leds, etc...

Will overclock further as there is still more headroom I believe with a slight voltage increase...

I will try to get 4.7 or 4.8ghz out of it, at 4.5ghz at the moment and temps are still low... I'll play around with it a little more, increase the volts to around 1.380, runs some more tests and see if it's stable...

According from what I read running at 70+ is fine but 80+ over long period will shorten the life span of the cpu.

Around 98 degrees is the max safe temperatures from what I have seen...

As I mentioned above will try to get a little more overclock out my 2600k...

Ok guys, unfortunately I was unable to get ANYTHING higher than 4.5ghz, windows would not boot...

Even after increasing the voltage from 1.350 to 1.380, 1.400 and even 1.420v @ 4.6ghz would not load into windows...

Is there ANY other methods of trying to get a higher overclock/settings to change, something else becides the multiplier?

Maleficarus, your temps seem very high considering your running at only 4ghz?

Sure you got a good enough cooler, I'm at 4.5ghz and have never got to more than 50 degrees celcius...

Only when running a stress/torture test do I get to 69 and 70 degrees MAX...

ay Mal, im getting 60C max in games and thats at 5ghz oc, you shouldnt be going over 45-48 load in games unless your using the stock cooler...

Kane read through the guikde Mufflore posted, it got me started with my oc on sb and since your not planning to go over 5ghz is should be more then enough for you to get your desired oc

I got a question with regards to Prime95. It's been running one hour plus, is there no end to it? How do I know when it ends?

What a BRILLIANT guide guys, thanks a bunch for it, some excellent information...

I changed several settings the guide recommended me to and I've successfully been able to boot into windows at 4.6ghz @ 1.424v...

Again I'm running a stability test in Intel burn test...

Temperatures have slightly gone up to 77 celcius whereas before it was 74...

Should this pass the test I will try slightly lowering the voltage & increasing multiplier to 47x and leave it at that...

Will upload a screenshot once the test is complete...

 

you should do a blend test in prime95 for 8h and 50 max runs of ibt, thats how i check if the oc is rock stable for 24/7

 

Prime95 goes on forever
Use it for as long as you are likely to use your PC hard if you want to guarantee stability.
ie if you play a game that is tough on the CPU, run the test for as long as you are likely to play the game in one sitting.
Or if you do video encoding etc... Test for as long as you are going to encode for.

Because it takes a long time to do the final stability test, dont bother with really long tests until you are sure you have finished clocking.

For quick testing, I run it for 10 mins, if it passes, I bump the speed up.
When it fails, I back down the speed by one or 2 of the speed increases.
Then I do a full test for stability once finished.


Khalams method is good to guarantee stability as well.
