Ok so waiting on my new monitor to arrive, just sold my old one, so now in the interim, i'm using what I can only describe as a postage stamp!! For the past couple of years now I have always had a 16x10 is it a vast improvement going from that to 1080p?? Will I notice it much? And will i loose a lot of performance in games?? Was hoping My monitor would have been here by now, but its looking like it may be a couple of weeks!!??!?!? Just trying to wet my appetite as it'll be my first 1080p
I love my 1080p monitor, it is a 27" samsung and is everything i need. I think you will notice a little difference in sharpness. There is no way you will lose performance, not with a gtx 580.
good good... this one will also be LED lit, still a Tn and not an IPS but still different from what I had
Went from 1920x1200 (same aspect as 1680x1050) to 1920x1080. For me personally It felt like a real stupid move, you lose alot of hight on the screen and I hate it. I would not suggest anyone with a PC to go from 16:10 to 16:9.
I went from 1680x1050 (22") to 1920x1080 (23") and did not find that big a difference although I suspect some would notice it more than others.
Depends. Only if its bigger than the standard 23-24" screens out there. I went from 1680x1050 to 1920x1200 (25.5" Samsung). Couldnt justify 1080 on 23-24" screens because its nearly same vertical height as 1050 screens. But I have seen the Samsung 27" 1920x1080 and like that a lot for gaming (my bro has it).
Sadly there can't be find any 1920x1200. I plan to stick with my 1680x1050 22" for the time being. It feels perfect size. I can't understand the new trend to stuff 1920x1050 in 23" or even smaller forms.
1920x1200 for pc. The extra screen height is essential. 1080 screens are only being made for PC because marketers think people will only buy screens with 1080p in their name these days.
ugh,...beginning to wish i'd just stayed with my old monitor now. As its only a 23", just fancied something with a crisper, sharper picture and FullHD films will be a bonus too...
Well... that's the way people are. I mean hell, let's just be glad that a lot of TV manufacturers stopped calling 720p TV's "HDTV"... or at least stopped doing so quite as often. But hey... it did seem to make monitor's somewhat cheaper... even though 16:10 is technically higher definition than the typical "High-Definition". The only reason i'd potentially suggest going from 16:10 to 16:9 is probably for multi-monitor setup's.... and that's simply because of the idea that 1920x1200 monitors are so freakin hard to come by these days. Even 1680x1050 is hard to come by... being replaced with 1600x900. Going to a triple-monitor setup is the only thing that's making me think about switching.... but then again, the only triple-monitors i'd be able to afford in one go would be the Acer 23" LED backlit monitors.... and i'm not sure how much i'd like the quality of them. I tried out one of those Asus 120hz monitors that came with the 3DVision glasses stuff for a few days... and on top of the headache that i seemed to get using the monitor in 2D..... the colors were just washed out, and hardly looked the same as my current Gateway FHD2400. On the other hand... if i DO like those Acer 23" monitors.... i could probably sell my Gateway for enough to pay for two of those monitors. Not only is it damn near impossible to find a 16:10 monitor anymore... but it's also pretty much impossible to find a monitor with damn near every input you'd ever need (DVI, VGA, HDMI, Composite, Component, S-Video). I hate how it seems like most monitors now either look awesome and have next to no inputs, or look like a** yet have the more crucial inputs. Kinda like some i see on Newegg that have VGA and DVI... but no HDMI. Li4m79: Well... if you've been using a monitor for several years, i'm pretty sure there'd be a significant difference in picture quality. On top of that, if you go from an anti-glare to a glossy monitor, it'll also have a positive impact on picture quality.
I went from a 22" 1680x1050 LCD to a 23" 1920x1080 LCD to a 21" 1920x1080 LED... The only difference I ever noticed is the size of the screen.... Ummm....My TV is 720P and has a little plaque on the front that says "HDTV" Compared to an "SDTV", 720P is HD.....640x480 vs 1280x720? I still don't see the difference between a DVD at 480 and a blu-ray at 1080....
well... 21" is rather small for major differences. Pretty sure the whole idea behind BluRay was high quality video on much larger screen's. But even on my 24", it seems BluRay's look much better than DVD's.... not to mention the sound quality boost can come in handy, too.
That is because you’re watching that blu-ray in 720P on your TV silly...watch that same blu-ray in 1080P and there is a visual difference. It is like playing a video game in 1024x768 vs. 1680x1050....massive detail difference in pretty much every way! I too used to be skeptical about blu-ray and the differences until I went and bought a blu-ray player and the blu-ray version of Avatar. It was like night and day... I would never go back to regular DVD now...
Yea... the only reason i still look at DVD is because to me, not all movie's are BluRay worthy (mostly the action movies are... for obvious reasons. ED like big boom. haha).... and if buying, BluRay movies can still be quite expensive. Then again.... Tron Legacy was an awesome buy..... BluRay + DVD + Tron Classic DVD + Tron Classic BluRay + Digital Copy for like $50.
i've been on this little crappy 15" now for a day, and it is doin' ma tits in...... should have waited for my new monitor before I sold my old one...... everything is so scrunched up
going to 1920x1080 was an improvement when working on stuff (editing), but eventually I started to get tired of 1080 and now crave something with a higher resolution instead of two monitors. I really want an Apple Cinema 27" display, but the price is more than what I am willing to pay for. Where hell are all the large resolution displays? It's effing 2011.
