I have my sound turned off. (not sure if they have sound or not but im in office). Did they mention is this pre-render or real time rendering?

It will be cool if it is real time,

The Witcher 2 has much, much better graphics. Granted, Rockstar have the money to mocap everyone's faces, but the engine the Witcher runs on is vastly superior.

the guy he quoted said that console holds pc back, so i think why he mentioned la noire vs witcher 2 is because la noire pretty much trumps everything out there, facial animation wise.
so the statement that console holds pc graphics back in false. well of course to an extent. 95% of console games do hold back on graphics department, but there's always those one or two games that don't.

Wtf are you guys speaking about consoles? Consoles could run this stuff. It's the software that is responsible for the facial deformation (skin wrinkles etc) that is amazing.

LA Noire is using canned animations and graphics. I wouldn't consider it real time graphics in the first place. It is just playing back information just like a videotape, however it is captured in a manner that allows a 3D representation at a decently high resolution. Of course there is rendering going on, in order to reduce the amount of data stored, not everything is recorded, but some stuff re-constructed. It is a careful balance between rendering power and storage capacity.

What the people in this video are doing seems to be running a physical simulation of the skin and muscles to simulate the movement of a face from lower resolution sampling points. Since it is doing a full simulation you can also capture the movement from one actor, and apply it to a different face as long as it is similar enough. Notice how the simulation simulates the tightening and relaxing of muscles on the neck, even when it does not actually capture that data. It is receiving lower resolution movement data from an actor and simulating how the target model should look to correspond to the actor's motion.

Looks nice, but it would require quite a beefy machine to physically simulate the skin and muscle interactions. But the good thing about actually simulating this is that you could simulate how the face would react to external forces realistically. If you wanted to you could simulate a fist smacking into the face at high velocity in mid sentence.

duh, of course this is better than la noire's technique.

Might as well ask here-- youtube videos (embedded or on their site) haven't been working for me since last night. Browser is Chrome, 742.60 beta. Anyone know if this is a known issue? Working fine in IE.
