Never seen them? It's actually LAN from power sockets, basically instead of wires or a wireless router, you pump the network signal through the power cables. If you plug your modem in to it, then yes, you can use it for sharing the internet around the house.
They tested "wall power socket" internet 5-10y ago in Finland/Oulu and it was far from popular... Works but theres no need for it. Its was too expensive.
Hmmz, we had a review on it a while ago: http://www.guru3d.com/article/devolo-dlan-200-aveasy-powerline-adapter-review/
Netgear have had AV500mbps adapters out for months now... these guys are not the first. They are ok but if ur house has two seperate mains circuits. these ain't gonna work. They have to be on the same circuit ring. Plus there's more chance of getting ur machine fried during a storm. I've tried them before, sometimes if u get a wee power surge they cut out and u forfeit the round if ur playing a game due to small disconnection.
I think the main problem for these are power surges and the condition of your power grid, if it's old, don't even bother expecting that 500 mbps at all. Some old houses can't even carry a stable signal with these Powerline Ethernet adapters. deltatux
Eh..you just connect these to the power socket and thats all? I always thought some other wiring and stuff was done outside of the house.
No, just plug and go. It will find the other adapter through the electrical socket, negotiate a channel to talk on and then encrypt the traffic using an AES scheme for the connection. deltatux
man the stuff they keep coming out with these days is amazing. 10 years ago things like this were unheard of lol
